BACKGROUND
Demand for future fuels has been driven by climate change concerns and energy security. Several alterna ve
fuel op ons have been considered and developed, including biomass-based diesel, hydrogen & synthe c fuels
but the increasing demand for energy is s ll rising. India’s thrust towards clean mobility partly stems from its
overall environmental commitments under the Paris climate agreement & COP27 to reduce greenhouse gases,
transi on quickly to clean energy, and contribute to the mi ga on of the impacts of climate change.  A
substan al contribu on to these goals is expected to come from alternately fuelled mobility.
The concern over rapid deple on of fossil fuels has prompted the search for alterna ve fuels which having
efficiencies similar to those found in the conven onal fuels which are being used today. The future
consump on is based on alterna ve fuel resources and distribu on infrastructure. India aims to achieve net-
zero at the earliest and recognises the importance of transi on to clean transport to achieve this target. Over
the last few years, the Government has laid emphasis on the promo on of next genera on industrial segments
in the country to support this transi on. The government had implemented the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP)
Programme throughout the country, launched Green Hydrogen Policy, new Electric Vehicle Policy, these
commitments are posi oning India as a leading des na on in alternate fuels in India.
However, due to insufficient financial stability of refineries, produc on is not mee ng the demand and limited
availability of feedstock, technology, infusion lack of skilled labour & awareness is s ll a concern for this
Industry. To discuss the above related issues and to bring together major players in blending & alterna ve fuels
on na onal level and to strategize on making India, self-reliant in energy sector, ASSOCHAM is organizing a
