presentazione Electric Power Systems II (cod. 051543) sottotitolo Samuele Grillo Milano, XX mese 20XX Self-consumption

an-hour data]

Energy storage system (ESS) constraints & important variables
• Maximum number of cycles: 5000
• ESS cost: 300 €/kWh (you can try different scenarios, only downward) • Specific energy: 200 Wh/kg • Specific power: 300 W/kg • How to evaluate the SoC? [t = 1 for hourly data, = 1/4 for quarter-of-an-hour data]

Energy storage system (ESS) constraints & important variables
• How to evaluate the number of cycles? [N is the total no. of
samples]
• Warning: by using ESS, self-consumption is altered (or it
should be)

Energy storage system (ESS) nominal power & energy
• How to choose nominal power and energy?

Net present value
• The net present value (NPV) is a way to “translate”
(technically, discount) future cash flows over Y years (20 years in our case) at the time of the analysis (present). • It takes into account the discount rate (r)
• Consider a 25% discount only on hardware • Consider a +15% increase for installation • Evaluate the costs of the ESS • Evaluate the daily management of the whole system (i.e., load, PV, and ESS) • Evaluate NPV (over 20 years) • Two basic scenarios: • w/o ESS (initial cash flow is only PV costs) • w ESS (initial cash flow is PV + ESS costs, and possibly a replacement at some time) • Evaluate the costs of the energy drawn from the grid • Evaluate the revenues from selling energy to the grid (the difference will give you the yearly cash flows)
