How to keep safe on a long drive

Nowadays, road accidents are very frequent, especially long distances driving.
Here are some tips to make your trip safer and prevent any kind of accident.

As far as the vehicle is concerned, make sure all the lights are working right, as
these are important to see the road and other vehicles, also to the rest of
drivers can see you, especially at night.
Check the tires pressure because depending on the load in the vehicle you’ll
need more air pressure, otherwise, you will have longer braking distance, early
tire wear and tear and your vehicle will consume more fuel.
Check all the liquids of your vehicle if don’t have done it recently to avoid a
scare during the trip.
Make sure your vehicle is ready to do a long drive.

Now your vehicle is ready, but are you? Make sure you had enough rest to
starting the trip, never drive if you are tired or about to fall asleep.
Once you are on the trip remember to drink water to keep hydrated, adjust the
heating or air conditioning to maintain a comfortable temperature in the
vehicle interior.
Turn on the radio to keep you awake in case you’re alone in the vehicle, in case
you aren´t, start a conversation to someone.
Never use your mobile phone while you are driving, this can sound obvious but
most of accidents on the roads are due to this bad practice, if you need to use
it, stop your vehicle in a rest area.
Last but not least, take frequent breaks. Even if you are not tired, take a break
approximately every two hours, stretch your legs, grab a snack, use the
restroom etc. Never think that you must make a long drive in one stretch.

All of these tips are small things that will help to increase your awareness while
driving for long periods of time. Remember, driving may not be physically
demanding, but it can be mentally straining.
