Operation EVEREST: 41 SAR’s

Engagement with Team Singapore
Story by Daniel Yong/ Photography by Roy Chong

O n 13 Februry 2014, Team Singapore came

to Kranji Camp II where 41st Battalion Singapore
Armoured Regiment (41 SAR) is housed. Our
national athletes not only brought a series of
sports, namely Boccia, Floorball, Judo, Silat and
Wheelchair Basketball, but also their interesting
and inspiring sporting experiences to share with
Our 41 SAR soldiers. This engagement with our
national athletes is part of 41 SAR’s initiative,
code-named Operation EVEREST.

Operation EVEREST is an initiative that is aimed

to motivate Our soldiers to push their boundaries
and overcome their own Everests. Operation
EVEREST runs a series of events and activities to
train and inspire soldiers in 41 SAR, to run a full
marathon (about 42 km) at the end of this year.

2LT Goh Choon Meng from 41 SAR who

participated in Judo and Wheelchair basketball,
shared, “Participating in sports gives me a sense
of achievement when I successfully overcome the
obstacles. Today, I am inspired by our athletes as
they show a lot of passion towards their sport and
they make me believe that I can overcome tough
challenges if I have a strong passion for what I am
doing.”

Our national Basketball player, Low Wen

Qiang Russel, also commented on his sharing,
“It has been a good experience for me to be
interacting with the soldiers as an athlete today.

Playing Wheelchair Basketball is not only a new
experience for the soldiers but also new to me
too. Yet, it was really enjoyable to be playing and
