A trip to the past
“Miguel María Grau Seminario”
Miguel María Grau Seminario, was a Peruvian military and political sailor, and
posthumous Grand Admiral of the Peruvian Navy, born on July 27, 1834 in Piura.
Miguel Grau always traveled by boat, on the boat he came to disappear in the naval
combat of Punta Gorda. Some time later, the navy won. Battle of Iquique, sinking of the
Corvette Esmeralda. This was the first time that Grau showed his great human
sensitivity, since he not only avoided harming the civilian population, but also saved the
shipwrecked sailors of the enemy ship. Grau finally died in the battle of Angamos.
