Pollution

WATER POLLUTION l referes to the poisoning of water bodies by human activities like industrial
chemicals, and other wastes enter the water bodies without being treated. Water pollution make
fresh water of rivers &lakes unusable for human consumption and cause a lot of health problems.

When the used water of our homes and industries enter water bodies like rivers & lakes without
being treated it poisons the water. Our industries are responsible for spilling oil in water bodies. As
oil does not dissove it forms a thick layer over the water surface and blocks the light and oxygen
supply. It then starts to suffocate the plants and animals in the water. Industries also dump a lot of
harmful substances like metals into the water. polluted water carries germs that causes deadly
diseases like cholera and typhoid. Fish and other sea animals can consume the toxic chemicals in
water which sthen stays in their bodies. These chemicals can enter our bodies when we eat
seafood.

Polluted water cannot be used for cooking or cleaning..

Waste water should be treated at a sewage treatment plant before being dumped in the river.

The waste that pollutes water bodies is called water pollution.
