1. Instruments Mounting
Safety Instructions:
WARNING: The user shall ensure that the PTFE parts located within the potentially zone 0
atmosphere are protected from impact or friction from the flow of non- conductive media.
WARNING: The user shall ensure that aluminium parts located within the potentially zone 0
atmosphere are protected from impact or friction.
• A location you can safely and easily reach for mounting and connecting.
• Use a still pipe connection that meets the criteria of (figures 1) below
• The still pipe should be continuous from tank top to tank bottom.
• The still pipe will of necessity require holes along its length. These should be in a single vertical plane
and be of diameter less than or equal to 20mm.
• The still pipe should be free of weld butts and fastenings that protrude into the path of the radar
beam.
• The bottom of the still pipe should include a reflector angled at 45 degrees from plumb.
• The internal diameter of the still pipe should be continuous from tank top to tank bottom. If this is
not the case, please contact Motherwell Tank Gauging or their official representative for advice.

• A location you can safely and easily reach for mounting and connecting.
• Use a tank top socket that meets the criteria of the figure below
• Install the gauge horizontally or inclined in accordance with the criteria at table below.
• Ensure that there are no pipes or other obstacles that would prevent the radar beam from traversing from
the desire location to the tank floor, bearing in mind the beam angle identified at 1.5 below.
The tank top socket to which the gauge is mounted must not exceed certain dimensions dictated by the size of the
antenna fitted to the gauge.
The minimum diameter of the inside of the socket and the maximum height of the socket to the top of the flange
should not exceed the following :
For best performance the antenna should protrude from the end of the socket.
It may be possible for longer, pre-existing sockets to be used – check with MTG or their authorised representative
before use.

• A location you can safely and easily reach for mounting and connecting.
• Use a stillpipe connection that meets the criteria below
• The stillpipe should be continuous from tank top to tank bottom.
• The stillpipe will of necessity require holes along its length. These should be in a single vertical plane and be
of diameter less than or equal to 20mm.
• The stillpipe should be free of weld butts and fastenings that protrude into the path of the radar beam.

• A location you can safely and easily reach for mounting and connecting.
• Use a tank top socket that meets the criteria below
• Install the gauge horizontally in accordance with the drawing at 1.8.3 below.
Ensure that there are no pipes or other obstacles that would prevent the radar beam from traversing from
the desire location to the tank floor, bearing in mind the beam angle identified at the table below.
When using a 500mm Diameter socket the maximum height of the socket should not exceed 500mm. Larger
diameter sockets can be higher.
Please contact Motherwell Tank Gauging or their official representative for advice.
If this is not achievable please contact Motherwell Tank Gauging or their official representative for advice.
Note: Please refer to document# Parabolic Manual 002 for installation details

Transition Outside Diameter 50 150 196
Fit the 8900d Horn antenna using the three fixing bolts, you will require a 5mm Allen Key to fix the
bolts. Ensure that the is securely fitted
Once the gauge is assembled with the antenna fitted, lower onto the Stillwell pipe and Securely
bolt down the gauge onto the Nozzle.
Note: For Electrical Cable terminations inside the radar gauge body please follow the instructions
on section 2.1
2. Electrical Connections
Care must be taken to arrange the cables into the gauge such that intrinsically safe signal carrying cables
are segregated from non-intrinsically safe cables.
Please ensure that the cables are installed as directed by the labels affixed at the gland entries of the
gauge.
Figure 2
In zone 1 or zone 2 hazardous areas, power must not be applied to the gauge until all gland entries are
fitted or bunged and both front and rear gauge covers are fitted
2.3. Communications
With power isolated at the tank-top isolator or local m.c.b. connect the communications cable to the
designated terminals
WARNING: The analogue inputs of the radar gauge MUST be supplemented with an intrinsically safe
barrier device when connected to equipment that is not certified explosion proof.
Note: LP4 must be factory configured as an ANALOGUE input to be used for water interface measurement.
WARNING: The analogue inputs of the radar gauge MUST be supplemented with an intrinsically safe
barrier device when connected to equipment that is not certified explosion proof.
Note: LP1 through LP4 must be factory configured as a DIGITAL input to be used for discrete status sensing.
Connect as follows:
WARNING: The analogue inputs of the radar gauge MUST be supplemented with an intrinsically safe
barrier device when connected to equipment that is not certified explosion proof.
2.5cm distance
Install 2 Nuts
2” Flange
2. Install the nut with a washer after installing the flange on the threaded part of the probe.
3. Please make sure to leave a distance of about 2.5cm between the top of the threaded part and the
first installed nut
4. Install the junction box.
2 Nuts
5. Tight the two nuts between the flange and the junction box.
6. Install the third nut inside the junction box and make sure it is tight as well
7. Install the anchor weight to the bottom end of the temperature probe and bolt the holding nut
tightly.
8. Finally install the complete probe in the tank nozzle and bolt it in.
