Course Description:

This course is designed to provide an overview of basic management concepts with current
business practice in a way that is both interesting and effective for the students. Studying this
course, students will develop basic knowledge of different aspects of management as well as
necessary skills of applying this knowledge in their workplace. This course covers a number of
relevant areas that students need to know about thoroughly to develop a concrete understanding
of management of a particular organization. These are management & organization, organization
structure, planning, organizing, leading and controlling.

Teaching Methodology:

This course contains theoretical analysis, illustrations, examples, case studies, business related
movies in order to understand the contemporary business world. Hence, it will provide the
students better understanding of the concept of Management.

In order to achieve success, it is vital that the teacher and the students cooperate with each other
in identifying areas, which may need further clarification. It is expected that classes will be
proactive with contribution from all participants. Visual presentation (power point) will be used for
better understanding of various topics in the course though most of the lectures will be based on
problem solving and practice of exercises using whiteboard, practical exercise and group task.

The team teaching approach will be applied to allow other teachers teaching the same topics to
share additional inputs in the class. This will be made in a pre-arranged mode so that the topics
can be carried out as scheduled.

Course Requirements:

Quizzes:
Altogether 12 quizzes will be taken during the semester. The quizzes generally based on previous
class lectures. No make up quizzes will be taken. Students are strongly recommended not to miss
any quizzes. Quiz will give students an idea of the upcoming exam questions regarding the style
and the level of difficulty

Case study:
Case analysis is a very important part of this course. It will enhance student’s problem solving
skills. A total of 12-15 cases will be covered.

Assignments:
The topic of the assignment will be informed in the class. Assignments can be individual or group
based and must be submitted on or before the due date. No late submission of assignments will
be accepted. Homework can be given to further understand lessons / topics discussed.

Exams:
Mid Term and Final exams will be a mixture of key terms, case solving, and short and long
questions. The full format will be discussed in class before the actual exam

Class behavior & policy:

¤ Students are expected to attend all the classes and be on time. Students must have 80%
attendance of the total number of classes. Otherwise, the students will receive a “UW”
grade. It is entirely the responsibility of the students to collect the materials that has been
missed due to failure of attending any classes for any reason whatsoever. Let it be
reminded that lectures will not be repeated. Withdrawal from class is not automatic. The
student who desires to withdraw is responsible for processing the withdrawal.

¤ Punctuality is of essence. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of the class. Students
will be considered as LATE if they come after the roll-call. Three LATEs will be counted as
ONE ABSENCE.

¤ Students are encouraged to actively participate in the class discussion and ask relevant
questions.

¤ Students MUST turn off their cell phones prior to entering the classroom.

¤ Honesty is the best policy. Any sort of academic dishonesty will result in severe
consequences and may lead to receiving a failing grade for the course.

¤ Class participation is the best way of learning.

¤ Ethical and professional conduct at every step is of pinnacle importance

¤ Late submissions will not be entertained

Evaluation:
Grades will be calculated as per the university grading structure and individual student will be
evaluated based on the following criteria with corresponding weights.
