WILYKAT AND WILYKIT BIO No matter how young or small, this dynamic
twin duo are key members of the ThunderCats team and important for
the group’s survival on Third Earth. Wilkat and his younger sister, Wilykit,
live for mischief-making and playing jokes, but luckily their playful antics
have a purpose. As natural tricksters, these Thunderkittens use beguiling
methods to conquer the most fiendish of foes. Wilykat subdues with his
Flick, a grappling hook, to overcome enemies, and Wilykit enchants with
her hypnotic flute.

VINTAGE VAULT Wilykat was released

by LJN: first as an unarticulated PVC
pack-in figure with Tygra in wave one in
1985 (immediate right), and then as an
articulated stand-alone figure in wave
two in 1986 (far right).

THUNDERCATS ARE LOOSE! Mattel first

announced the ThunderCats Classic toyline at San
Diego Comic-Con in 2015. With sculpting by Four
Horsemen Studios and shared parts with Masters of
the Universe Classics, collectors quickly embraced
ThunderCats Classic as an unofficial sister toyline
to MOTUC. A half-year subscription, dubbed
Club Third Earth, was offered in 2016, with
Lion-O announced as the first of seven
figures to be released beginning in July. But when
production fell behind schedule, the subscription was
bumped to September, and suddenly the ThunderCats
ACCESSORIES Classic exclusive for SDCC 2016 — a two-pack of the
Thunderkittens — became the line’s inaugural
offering.

BOMBS AWAY Wilykat came

with a total of five swappable
hands (three left, two right). One
of the left hands was sculpted as
if he was holding a detonating
smoke bomb.

lion-o
BIO Lord of the ThunderCats, Lion-O is a cunning leader known for his
great strength and agility. He wields power with the magical heirship of his
forefathers, the Sword of Omens, which allows him to see faraway lands
and to contact the ThunderCats when there is impending danger. Lion-O is
also able to avoid perilous situations with the guidance received from Jaga,
who advises him spiritually. Although Lion-O is ruler, he is a child in a man’s
body, constantly challenged to grow in moral strength through the Code of
Thundera — Justice, Truth, Honor and Loyalty, and Lion-O always succeeds.

VINTAGE VAULT Lion-O was released in the first

wave of the vintage ThunderCats toyline by LJN. The
figure came with the Sword of Omens, claw shield, and
a life-sized, battery-powered ring that made his eyes
light up when touched to his back. Some versions of
Lion-O also came packaged with a Snarf figure.

NEW AND IMPROVED

With TC Lion-O, and all
of the other figures
in the ThunderCats
Classic toyline, Mattel attempted to be
screen-accurate to the 1985 ThunderCats
cartoon, much more so than the
vintage LJN toyline, where figures
tended to frequently be off-model
from their cartoon designs. The
Mattel figures also featured a
greater number of articulation
points, whereas most LJN figures only
had five points of articulation total.

jackalman
BIO Loyalty is very important to Jackalman, unfortunately, he’s loyal only
to himself. As a member of the mutants, enemies of the ThunderCats,
Jackalman leads the Jackalmen, a group of humanoid jackals from
planet Plun-Darr. Jackalman’s real name is Kaynar, and regardless of his
name, there’s no question that this scavenger is a conniving coward whose
intentions can never be trusted, except when it comes to him using any
means possible to destroy the ThunderCats.

VINTAGE VAULT Jackalman was released in the

first wave of the vintage ThunderCats toyline by
LJN. The figure came with removable shoulder
armor and a brown spiked club accessory.

NEW AND

the color of its fur to
its missing shin guards
to its simplistic

Jackalman figure was hardly screen-

was a much more accurate
representation, so much so
that the only things the two
figures really had in common
were the cheetah-skinned left arm

The latter was an homage to
the vintage action figure, as

pumyra
BIO A super agile climber, Pumyra resembles a puma and is known for
her outstanding leaping abilities. She is a true asset to the ThunderCats
because she has a great understanding of medicine and serves as their
healer. While she is skilled in combat, using a weapon that looks like a cat’s
tail, called a whipcord, Pumyra, by nature, tends to first try to solve conflicts
without fighting. Instead, she leans towards compassion and working on
creating compromise and mutual understanding. However, when combat is
necessary, she uses her whipcord which launches pellets and spheres, similar
to an ancient sling.

The only really noteworthy devia-

mumm-ra
BIO This mysterious creature, shrouded in a robe, lives in the Black Pyramid,
in the dark corners of Third Earth, his native home. Mumm-Ra spends
much of his time pensively watching the ThunderCats in his larger-than-
life, bubbling cauldron. Possessing a strong and sharp mind, Mumm-Ra, by
contrast, has a body that is weak and feeble, so his survival depends on
him returning to his sarcophagus each day. However, he does more than
just rest in his tomb. While he serves four Ancient Spirits of Evil that have
granted him with immortality, Mumm-Ra, with his intelligence and cunning,
is the mastermind of the Mutants, controlling them to do his bidding in
defeating the ThunderCats.

VINTAGE VAULT Mumm-Ra was released as

a mail-away figure in the vintage ThunderCats

panthro
BIO Panthro is one of the toughest warriors of the ThunderCats and relies
on his physical strength as much as he does on his mastery of martial arts.
During combat, he uses a pair of chained Fighting Sticks that open into cat
paws. These nunchuck-like weapons spray various chemical compounds that
he uses against enemies. Panthro also builds all of the vehicles used by the
ThunderCats on Third Earth, including the Thundertank, the HoverCat and
more. He is the mechanic, engineer and the pilot for the ThunderCats.

VINTAGE VAULT Panthro was released in the

by LJN. The figure came armed with a pair of
nunchucks.

The vintage Panthro ac-

only really noteworthy de-

his right wrist and the band
on his left bicep, which

JAGA
BIO Long ago, Jaga served Claudus, original Lord of the ThunderCats.
Charged with guarding the treasures of Thundera, he became a mentor to
Claudus’ son, Lion-O. During Thundera’s destruction, Jaga led the exodus
of refugees. He later sacrificed himself to pilot their flagship safely to the
distant world of Third-Earth, yet his spirit continues to guide a now adult
Lion-O, reaching out from the Spirit Realm in times of great need.

PUMYRA
BIO A super agile climber, Pumyra is known for her outstanding leaping
abilities. She is a true asset to the ThunderCats because she has a great
understanding of medicine and serves as their healer. While she is skilled in
combat, Pumyra tends to first try to solve conflicts without fighting. Instead,
she leans towards compassion and working on creating compromise.
However, when combat is necessary, she uses her whipcord which launches
pellets and spheres, similarly to an ancient sling.

EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN Super7’s Ul-

timates Pumyra was a re-release of the figure first
produced by Mattel in November of 2016. The figure
was nearly identical to Mattel’s version, with the excep-
tion of some of the coloration and a slightly higher
accessory count. One issue with Mattel’s Pumyra —
her height (she was too tall) — was unfortunately not
addressed, as Super7’s version was barely shorter
than the Mattel version.

LOST TREASURE The Totem of Dera, from the cartoon

episode of the same name, was one of the pieces
of the Treasure of Thundera. The Totem had the
power to cure all illnesses and heal the sick,
as well as the ability to bring inanimate
objects like rocks to life. Used by Snarfer
to heal Lion-O, by the end of the episode the
Totem of Dera

MUMM-RATHE EVER-LIVING
BIO Mumm-Ra is the ThunderCats’ evil adversary. Mummified and otherwise
weak, he is energized and made immortal as a servant to the Spirits of
Evil, who grant him magical and transformative powers to carry out their
wicked bidding.

VINTAGE VAULT Mumm-Ra was released in the

first wave of the vintage ThunderCats toyline by LJN.
The figure came with a removable headdress, black-
bladed sword, and silver dagger. The figure featured
light-up eyes that were triggered via a life-sized ring
that could be applied to his back.

COLOR CORRECTED Like most of the

LJN ThunderCats figures, especially those
from the first wave, the vintage Mumm-Ra
figure varied quite a bit from his on-
screen appearance in both design and
color. The Super7 version more closely
captured Mumm-Ra’s small screen
appearance, most notaby with his white
bandages and his cape, which the
vintage figure lacked completely.

HEADS UP Mumm-Ra came packaged

with two head sculpts, one with his

in the original cartoon series).

TYGRA
BIO Tygra, Lion-O’s counsel and trusted lieutenant, is the oldest ThunderCat,
cool-headed and gifted with a scientific mind. He is master of the bolas, a
whip-like weapon that can also make him invisible, and he has the power to
put convincing illusions into the minds of others.

VINTAGE VAULT Two versions of Tygra were re-

leased in the vintage ThunderCats toyline by LJN.
The first one, frequently referred to as “Young
Tygra” by collectors, was released in Wave
One and sometimes included a Wilykat
pack-in figure. Later, LJN released
a more screen-accurate Tygra to
replace the less on-model original
version. Both Tygra figures came
with a bola whip accessory.

NEW AND IMPROVED Super7’s Ultimates Tygra

was of course vastly superior to his LJN predeces-
sors, better capturing his cartoon design and add-
ing a great deal more articulation, but the figure
was not without its issues. There was much
debate about the accuracy of his colors, as
his clothing ended up being more blue
instead of having a teal/green tint to it
(the same could also be said for the
color of Mumm-Ra’s skin). The most
glaring omission on the figure was
the lack of an elbow pad on the figure’s right
arm, a detail
that was shown
