How To Change the Contrast in PDF documents

Introduction
The Adobe Acrobat Pro DC is available on every PC within Chester University campuses. The
University has invested in Adobe Creative Cloud licensing and so many of the Adobe apps are
available to staff and students alike. When using the University computers, the user may be asked
to log on after starting the Adobe Acrobat Pro DC app. Just choose ‘Enterprise ID’ and type in your
University e-mail address and University password. An Adobe Acrobat Reader can also be freely
downloaded and so documents can also be read at home. There are many journal articles, books
and documents that are available as PDFs so it is worth spending some time learning how to make
them easier to read. For more information about Adobe including tutorials, please look at:

Adobe Website

The Adobe Acrobat Pro DC is available in the ‘All apps’ menu of all University Windows PCs as well as
Macs.

Go to the Accessibility Option

Open up a pdf document using the Adobe Acrobat Pro DC app and then choose the following option:

Edit -> Preferences…

Finally, highlight the ‘Accessibility’ option on the left hand side and the following window will be
displayed:

The blue oval shows where the high contrast options are. By choosing ‘Replace Document Colours’,
the options underneath are made available and the reader can choose the best option to suit them.
The most useful option is ‘Custom Colour’ which allows the user to choose which colours are the
PDFs background and which colour for the text. Therefore the user can choose the best colours so
that they can see the document most clearly.

To close the option, just press the ‘x’ in the top right hand corner.
