REACTION PAPER
The Ultimate Playlist of Noise

The Ultimate Playlist of Noise is a Romance-Comedy Film that was released last 2021by
Hulu. It was directed by Bennett Lasseter and written by Mitchell Winkie with Keean Johnson
and Madeline Brewer as the main lead. The film was about a teenager who loves doing music
but later knew about his condition and lost his hearing permanently. This movie was not the best
but still, I enjoyed it and still would recommend it.

Making audio mixtapes for his professors and classmates is Marcus’ passion. He is
inspired by music, and everything he does is inspired by his late brother who died saving him
when their house caught fire. However, everything changed when he had a seizure attack which
was caused by a brain tumor. Despite it being harmless, the doctors still decided to carry out a
surgery that would not only remove the tumor but also permanently lose his hearing. He is
heartbroken and decides to take a road trip to New York City in which he met Wendy in an effort
to hear and record all the noises he will miss, including his brother's singing voice.

Personally, the film was great, but I wish it was better. The scenes were delivered well
individually but I think it was fast paced. This film was cliche and has obvious plot twists. The
cinematography was good as well as the OSTs that were used in the song. The characters were
portrayed well; however, I just wished the supporting characters like Marcus’ father and his
friends were given a longer screen time. I think the movie might have been understood more
with them having longer screen time.

I love how Marcus chose to stay positive when he knew about his tumor. In most movies
that cater these types of plots, the character would be miserable when they find out but for
Marcus, he made an audio bucket list which I think is rare on movies. As someone who loves
music, I was also torn when Wendy sold her guitar. For me the guitar and her love for music
was the only thing that kept her going given that she was also in an abusive relationship, and it
is sad when she sold it.

This film gave us a glimpse of how devastating it is to have complications like these.
Fortunately, Marcus had enough support both financially and emotionally since he had his
family and friends that supported him all though out his journey. But how about the people who
had the same experience who does not have any of it? This movie was not the best but still, I
enjoyed it and still would recommend it.
