SOIL SAMPLING

One of the most important issues associated with soil testing is the matter obtaining a good soil sample
that present in the area tested.

Factors to be considered in preparing soil sample:

1. Selection of the area to be sampled.

2. Number and distribution of borings.

3. Sampling tools

4. Depth of sampling

5. Size of the sample and subdivision

6. Moisture status of the soil

The standard or reference procedures for taking composite soil sample:

1. Inspect the area.

2. Take a separate composite sample of each soil lot or area.

3. Avoid taking the sample from the fertilizer band when samplings Fields.

4. The soil sample is easier to sample when its moisture condition is suitable for plowing

5. Any clod or lump should be broken up before it dries up.

6. Take a uniform core or thin slice of soil from soil surface up to 15 cm. (10-20 cm)

7. Take ½ or ¼ of the soil. Make Z- frame in taking soil sample.
