Notably, "Sejong Korean Conversation, aims, ‘to make the learning of daily Korean expressions easier and more fun, and it soften being used for Korean language ‘education as the signature King Sejong Institute Foundation textbook satisfying both teachers and eamers inions of King Sejong Institute staft ‘The revision aims to make teaching and leaming more efficient by maintaining the good parts, replacing less ‘understandable images and pictures, and simplifying complicated instructions. Multiple formal words were replaced ‘with those that are most widely used in Korea. In addition, it should be noted that social and cultural contexts have ‘changed since the publication of the first edition and are reflected in the textbook for more relevant and practical ‘education. Furthermore, gender-role stereotypes and prejudices as well as imbalances in gender representation have ‘been climinated to address gender impact assessment items recently highlighted in many societies. Lastly, the fist ‘and second textbooks of the basic level have been translated into 15 languages, including English, Vietnamese, and Spanish, to enhance the convenience of and access to Korean language leaming, King Sejong Institute Foundation, as leading organization in spreading the Korean language and culture, will spare no effort to continue providing essential education materials and online services to Korean language learners ‘and teachers overseas. Tis is absolutely welcome news as someone who studies Korean language education and teaches. the language as well, In this context, I believe the quantitative growth of Korean language education is very much atributable to the sincerity and effort of the instructors teaching the Korean language worldwide with a “sense of duty ‘and enthusiasm.” Another factor contributing to this growth is the students who want to lear the Korean language regardless oftheir motivation At this point, we wanted to support the qualitative growth of Korean language education by providing “quality textbooks” for Korean teachers and students all over the world, Above all, we focused on providing “better-quality textbooks” by refining the existing quality textbooks rather than “developing” new “quality textbooks.” Making the ream come true, we are now publishing "King Sejong Institute Practical Korean, based on “the revision ofthe basic ing Sejong Institute Korean education textbooks” King Sejong Institute Practical Korean,, a “Korean language” textbook and the revised edition of 'Sejong Korean Conversation, developed in 2016, aims at nurturing overseas Korean language leamers’ “communication” skills, To publish the new "King Sejong Institute Practical Korean, we maximized the strengths found within and made up for the weakness by conducting a survey of the teachers and leamers who have used "Sejong Korean Conversation, and further conducted in-depth interviewers with dispatched teachers, local teachers, and operators at King Sejong Institutes. ‘Notably, gender-role stereotypes and prejudices, as well as imbalances in gender representation, have been eliminated to meet the “gender impact assessment items” recently highlighted among Korean language textbook developers. In addition, less understandable images and pictures were replaced with more specific ones, and complicated instructions were simplified to make teaching and leaming more efficient. In addition, multiple formal words were replaced with those most widely used by Koreans, Furthermore, some social and cultural contexts have changed since the publication ‘of the first edition and are reflected in the new textbook for'a more relevant and practical education, Sejong Korean Conversation, has been a highly satisfactory textbook for its users. Therefore, we focused on making, it“easier to teach and leam” for Korean language teachers and students asa “better textbook” through “revision,” not ‘development. I'm well aware that ths is thanks tothe tireless efforts of Prof. Janghee Lee and the other authors of the first edition. Therefore, I sincerely thank the authors of ‘Seong Korean Conversations, among others. [also send my sratitude, on behalf of the Revision Research Team, to King Sejong Institute Foundation, which planned the revision ‘work, our publisher Hawoo, which took part inthe editing, and the King Sejong Institute teachers and students around, the world who participate in the studies forthe revision. Deeply understanding that textbook revision is anything but easy, we put more time than expected into the revision ‘of "King Sejong Insitute Practical Koreans, Let me close this excerpt about the Revision Research Team with the hope that the textbook itself'shows how much time and effort our team put into it, Thank you.
