Introduction
For centuries land has been the most profitable assent for
humankind. It would bring wealth, cause wars, encourage
progress and establish titles and statuses. Milions thoughout
history have died trying to protect or capture lands and it was
in the centre of many significant societal conflicts.

The usage and division of lands within a coutry would often


cause such social conflicts and political uphevals.. Enclosure in
england was such a process.

WHAT IS ENCLOUSURE

Was a process of enclosing or establishing private


ownership over communal lands in england.
It had been carried out by force or agreement
Based on the decisions of the government and the
parliament or of the crown's opposition.
It was a process of lords of manors, big landlords,
gentry, and other powerful actors taking
communal lands
Had been used for centuries
by the english peasantry for
free, into their private
ownership.
WE SHOULD FIRST LOOK AT HOW THE LANDS WERE DIVIDED
IN ENGLAND PRIOR THE START OF ENCLOUSURE
It was divided in 2 diferent systems

OPEN FIELD SYSTEM
It consists of dividing the land among the population of
the manor, town, or village in strips
All the land was organized in strips, each landholder
was in possession of a number of such land strips
Land strips were divided by narrow strips of unused
lands between the peasants
In this strip they could plant crops or gather harvest
There were people with more power and more land but
the peasants could use it

A classic common property system that existed in many
countries
No matter how small the land used by the peasants
would be, the harvest and profists from it allowed them
to survive
Peasant might have dicided to grow a different crop
and start tillage at a different time

Wool prices dropped, but still wasn't


that cheap.
Mainly bought by people that was
rich(middle class and higher), that's the
reason why for example, peasants(the
lowest class) used cotton, creating lot
of demand of this resource, causing the
control of cotton on the market.

REVElLIONs

The Swing Riots were a widespread


uprising in 1830 by agricultural workers
in southern and eastern England in
protest of agricultural mechanisation
and harsh working conditions.
