it with our neighboring countries. For students to move into college or the university

senior high level certifies and validates that a student is qualified for college (Draven

Here in the Philippines, SHS students undertake a standard core curriculum and

engineering, and mathematics (STEM); humanities and social sciences (HUMSS); and

determine which paths could best match the strengths, passions, and a set of good skills
that the learners have. Choosing the right Senior High School strand will help motivate
the learner for the future career. Once they have chosen a strand they like, studying

In fact; in school years 2017-2018 there was a total of 1,025,907 students who
took up TVL tracks in 11,087 high schools in the country (PIDS, 2019. Many of those
schools offer different available SHS TVL tracks. Specially here in Southern

offers the SHS TVL tracks like TVL SMAW, TVL HE, and GAS and just like other
schools in Bislig City they also offer some SHS tracks that any learners can choose from
In pursuit of passion, dreams, and professions in life that they pondered in senior

they desired the most for their senior high school years. Children with great ambitions

Scope and Delimitation
The target respondent of this research is the Grade-10 students here in STIP. This
study mainly focused on the factors such as parental influence, accountability of the
student's choice, skills compatibility, budget, interest and opportunity to enhanced self-
improvement by choosing the strand they preferred for. There may be more factors

Choosing a senior high school strand is one of the most challenging decisions that
junior high school students will have to face. It is greatly important because the strand
they choose will serve as their training ground before entering college. This is following
their diverse dreams and interests in life that can still change over time ( Deil-Amen,
2011). In relevance, knowing and exploring one’s field of interest will nurture and help
one land on the right career track since these factors play a crucial role in determining a
future career that suits them. In career selection, students have to undergo an intricate
process, where they should consider factors that would affect their overall decision such
academic performance, personal interest, and many other aspects to forcefully be open-
minded of the things they will encounter in the not too distant future (Moneva & Malbas,

Why is it Important to Choose the Right Senior High School Track or Strands?
Senior High School is two years (Grade 11 and Grade 12) of specialized upper secondary
education and will require you to pick among different tracks upon enrollment. Your
chosen track and strand will reflect on the subjects you will take.
These different tracks, strands, and specializations are intended for you to
determine which paths fit your strengths, passions, and skills. Choosing the right Senior
High School strand will help motivate you for your future career. Once you choose a
strand you like, studying becomes more enjoyable since the strands are designed and
specialized to match your interests. Moreover, it expands your knowledge and skills,
while at the same time, exposing you to your chosen field of study in preparation for

the students, teachers, and parents the idea of where the students perform above and
average levels in various areas to help them choose the right career track suitable for
them (Sugano & Mamolo, 2021). This means that the student-respondents are most likely
to pursue a strand they think they can excel academically, rather than the strand they
think they are not good at or not suited to their academic performance. Moreover, the
