Week 2
What is the meaning of
Methodology ?
• The design from an architectural view is the connection between spaces that lead to easy
of use and to identify the functions related to each other, whether these functions have a
direct or indirect relationship, so it is a solution for style, function, needs.
• Meaning of design “in the English dictionary” To make or draw plans for something, for
example clothes or buildings.
Design from thinkers view
• - Design describes both the process of making things (designing) and the
product of this process (a design). Kathryn Bes
• - Design is the craft of visualizing concrete solutions that serve human needs and
goals within certain constraints. Kim Goodwin

Design as a product , Design as a style , Design as a process should consider the users as part of the design
WHAT IS Design Process
• It is a process that is subject to a set of interrelated standards, rules, and
aspects such as beauty, utility, safety, rhythm, compositions, etc., these
criteria are the first measure of the success or failure of any design. The
design process depends on the designer's innovate ability.

concept
• The concept is one of the design process elements it is considered the most important
element in representing the architect's ideas and styles. it expresses the architectural
product and the goal of its design. There are many definitions of the architectural idea
(concept) and by collecting all these definitions we can get to know the concept as follows:
What is concept
• It is the general idea in its initial form.
• The beginning of thinking, which needs a lot of detail and development later on.
• The center of the design framework, which allows to increase in complexity as the design
process continues.
• An analytical view of the architectural problem, from which the general architectural formation of
the architectural product can be accessed.
• The mental image that resulted from the analysis of the project and its objective.
• The general plan through which solutions to the architectural problem can be found through
functional needs.
• The primary means and methods for dealing with the design process.
• The initial rules for developing and preparing the general objective of the project.
• The initial ideas of the designer through which the development and creation of the general
configuration of the architectural product begins.
The Conditions of the design concept
• It should generated from the architectural problem or at least have a strong
relationship with it.
• -To be general and elementary. Should be the beginning of the emergence of the
architectural product identity and personality.
• - It should be developable.

Architect VS Concept
•
The architectural concept and design of the architectural product is affected by the architect, there
are many factors that affect the direction of the concept and the way it is applied. These factors are
related to the architect as the main influenced factors, which are:
• The architect's general philosophy, cultural backgrounds and affiliations.
• Design philosophy, expressive approaches, and architectural design trends and style.
• -The architect's vision of the design problem (depending on each project) and determining aspects
and methods of solving it.
Is the design process difficult
The difficulties are
• The fundamental problem is that designers are obliged to use current
information to predict a future state.
• The designers have to work backwards in time from an assumed effect upon
the word to the beginning of a chain of events that will bring the effect about.
• Instability of the design problem is what makes the designing more difficult.
• A perfect or best solution does not exist.
• Designers must consider many different designs at once.
• Ambiguity and confusion take designers to the start point.
• Important decisions are made quickly.
Therefore
• We discus the design process to make designing more manageable
• To understand the methodology that should designers follow
• To understand that designing may follow more than one method to produce
projects.
What is next
•- what is problem?
•- what is thinking?
