TERMINAL OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of the lesson, the trainee will be able to describe the main
components of construction of the turbine bearing & thrust bearing. In
addition, the trainee will be able to state the different categories of
maintenance as applied to BLCP Power Project and some of the
maintenance procedures applicable to the turbine bearing & thrust bearing.

OVERVIEW

• The turbine has three rotors each supported on two main (journal)
bearings.

• Main bearing No. 1 and 2 are multiple tilting pad type with a spherical
bearing shell seating.

• Spherical shell seating compensates for any minor misalignment.

OVERVIEW

• Main bearing Nos. 3 to 6 are spherically seated only.

• This design produces pressure film (of oil) between bearing shell and
journal.
• Turbine set has only one multiple rocking shoe thrust bearing
assembly.

• Rocking shoes self-level/align to rotor thrust collar and assist


lubrication.
