SIGHT WORD SKILLS

1) Sight Word Snakes & Ladders

The aim of these activities is for students to be able to read by repetition of the
sight words they are not familiar with .

Explanation about first activity :

This game is a twist on the classic Chutes & Ladders board game , incorporating some
reading into the game play . This game gives children many opportunities for sight words
repetition , while the board game format keeps it fun and engaging . Play the game as
you would regularly play Snakes & Ladders . But when the player moves their game
piece to a new spot , they must read each word along their path in order to progress . If
they are unable to read one of the words , then they stop on that word until their next
turn.
Explanation about second activity:

Give them a few questions that need to be answered on the blanks. Students have to
use the words in the box given and remind them to use each word once only. Give
around 10 minutes for them to complete the sentences that make sense with the words.
This will help them recognize and use the words more efficiently.
2) Word attack skills
The aim of these activities is that students should be able to determine the verb
using picture clues given.

Explanation about first activity:

Teacher will give the students a worksheet which they need to look at each of the
pictures and choose the correct sentence based on the picture clues given. For
example picture in box number one it shows a boy who is swinging on a swing.
The students need to choose which of the sentences that match with the picture.
Explanation about second activity:

Teachers show the worksheet on a whiteboard and also prepare the answers on
the flashcards for the students to put it on to the correct pictures.
