PEDRO MARTÍN JOSÉ MARÍA SUÁREZ-VÉRTIZ ALVA

Son of Germán Hernando Suárez-Vértiz Reyes (director of the Lima Art Museum
and son of the painter Germán Suárez-Vértiz)2 and Rosita Alva, he was born on
February 13, 1969, at the Callao Naval Hospital, due to the fact that his mother
and maternal grandfather belonged to the Peruvian Navy. He is the older brother
of Patricio Suárez-Vértiz, also a musician, and María Fe Suárez-Vértiz. He lived
his entire childhood and adolescence in San Isidro, next to El Olivar park.
At the age of nine at the María Reina Marianistas School, in 1978, he composed
a story about reflections on being born on Mother's Day. Already in high school,
his writings began to be set to music by forming a first band with his brother and
friends called Paranoia.
Later, he formed the group Arena Hash, in which he played the guitar, composed
and sang all the songs.
Parallel to his musical career with Arena Hash, he entered the University of Lima
and chose Communication Sciences, graduating at the age of 21 specializing in
radio, film and television. He is married to Cynthia Martínez with whom he has 3
children.
He has suffered from dysarthria since 2007, a symptom that is characterized by
difficulties in speaking and breathing, causing coordination problems, voice
intensity, diction, etc. for which, Pedro has moved away from the stage.
Since 2011, Pedro Suárez-Vértiz manifested an evident bad diction. He himself
explained that it was the product of a muscular nervous disorder, which is evident
with age, added to a chronic attention deficit that makes him appear extremely
distracted and confused when speaking. This significantly affects their singing.
Pedro declared that he regretted having proclaimed his defect, since it only
caused attention to it. He has reduced his interviews and increased his shows
because he has been recommended to sing as a rehabilitative therapy.
In 2013, away from the stage, he published his first book: Yo, Pedro.

The singer Pedro Suárez Vértiz used his social network once again to get closer
to his followers and talk about happiness. The artist asked them not to stop
smiling despite what may happen in their lives.
