1 General Remarks
This manual describes the configuration of the SINUMERIK 805SM-P and its operation as
seen from the commissioning operator interface.
l Other functions not described in this documentation might be executable in the control.
l This does not, however, represent an obligation to supply such functions with a new
control or when servicing.
1.1 Product
The SINUMERIK 805&M-P is a CNC press control with the following operating and display
components:
Monitor
Is put together
from single
components by
the manufacturer.
After POWER ON, the following basic display appears on the control:
FIELD N7000
. . .,.
1 ~i:.:.:.;$:,:~~;~
FIELD 17 00 3 .::i:i:l:i(:::si~i:i:::::::::.:.:,:...,,
Note:
If after POWER ON an error is detected, the control stops with the start-up display and
displays the error as an alarm number with text.
For the display of the user version it is necessary to input the software user version and
the software edition in the data words 10 and 11 of the data block 81 (link with operator
interface) in ASCII code.
Example: DWlO KC:BA
DWll KC:DC
The following user version is displayed:
AB CD
v++
Contents of DW 10 Contents of DW 11
Note:
Error messages can be displayed in the fields FIELD N7000 to FIELD N7006:
??? L123 i.e., the subroutine for user texts does not exist.
??? L123 N7003 i.e., the subroutine does exist but the NC block does not.
The operator interface of the SINUMERIK 805SM-P is divided into
- press operator interface
- commissioning operator interface
The press operating mode SINGLE STROKE may be activated/deactivated via machine
datum. The softkey SINGLE STROKE appears only when the operating mode is activated.
You may obtain the information of this basic display also via the VERSION softkey in the
commissioning operator interface.
The press operator interface consists of all selectable menus under the softkeys
CONTINUOUS STROKE, SINGLE STROKE, TOOL CHANGE, SET UP and BASIC FUNC-
TIONS. With the softkey PRESS COMM. the commissioning operator interface may be
selected.

Note:
l The traversing speed is determined by the axis speed correction. The value “0%” usually
leads to AXES STOP.
l You move the axis at rapid traverse rate by actuating the CONVENTIONAL PLUS MINUS
key together with the RAPID TRAVERSE OVERRIDE key.
Notes:
l All other fields are described in the chapter COMMENTS ON THE JOG BASIC DISPLAY.
l The OVERSTORE function is described in the chapter JOG OPERATING MODE.
Note:
Two different functions may be assigned to the direction keys:
0 “Locking” and
a “Jogging”
In the “Locking” mode, when the key is pressed (quickly or permanently), the axis is always
caused to traverse by the number of increments according to the setting.
In “Jogging mode” the traversing movement of the axis continues as long as the key is
pressed. Once the key is released, the traversing movement is arrested, no matter whether
the increment set has been reached or not.

Notes:
l All other fields are described in the chapter COMMENTS ON THE JOG BASIC DISPLAY.
l The OVERSTORE function is described in the chapter JOG OPERATING MODE.
Program blocks marked with a slash in front of the block number (e.g. “/NlOO...“), are not
considered in the program flow.
With the function activated all part program blocks are processed individually in the
following manner:
Via NC START key you start the processing of the decoding
single block.
Renewed actuation of the NC START key causes the next
program block to be processed and so on.
Note:
With the SINGLE BLOCK function only traversing blocks can be processed singly. The
function is activated via an interface signal. The press manufacturer can freely realise ope-
ration of this function.
The table below shows the blocks for which the signal DECODING SINGLE BLOCK EFFEC-
TIVE or the signal SINGLE BLOCK EFFECTIVE must be available if a program is to be pro-
cessed block by block.
l Blocks which were “preprocessed” effectively in the intermediate store without active
DECODING SINGLE BLOCK signal, but which were not yet processed, can no longer be
stopped.
l A “decoding single block” can be influenced through the OVERSTORE function.
With the function activated, program processing is stopped at the blocks in which the
miscellaneous function MO1 is programmed.
Then STOP:PROGR.STOP MOO/M01 is indicated on the screen.
You restart processing via the NC START key. If the function is not active, miscellaneous
function MO1 is disregarded.
ng at the time of
A block search in subroutine nesting is also possible. To this effect, you enter the block
number into the program in which the subroutine call is programmed. Subsequently, you enter
the number, the number of passes as well as the block number of the subroutine.

In this menu you can select the tool change axes. Upon axis selection the corresponding
machine data bit is set. The texts in the NAME input field are stored in a subroutine (standard
preassignment with axis 1, axis 2 etc.) and may be changed as desired.
Note:
l The sequence of operations for changing the axis data can be taken from the chapter
CAMS or from the sequence of operations to be followed in changing the cam data.
l The axes must be defined in ascending order (so a second axis cannot be defined if no
first axis exists).
l The names AXIS 1, AXIS 2 and AXIS 3 could be changed into, say HAM, STRIP
THICKNESS, LOADING etc. Then the changed names of the axes appear in the
corresponding menus of the operator interfaces.
In this menu you select the pressure modules, pressing force monitoring and machine-
dependent limits. To this effect, you enter the number of sensors for pressing force monitoring
and select the sensors from 1 to 8. These data are stored in the machine data. The texts in
the NAME input field are stored in a subroutine. The standard texts offered may be changed
as desired.
Note:
The sequence of operations for changing the data can be taken from the chapter CAMS or the
sequence of operations for changing the cam data and applied analogously.
Here you can select roll feed axes. Upon roll feed axis selection the corresponding machine
data bit is set. The texts in the NAME input field are stored in a subroutine (standard pre-
assignment with roll feed 1 or roll feed 2) and can be changed as desired. Moreover, the
number of roll feed blocks can be entered in this menu.
Note:
The sequence of operations for changing the data largely coincides with that described in the
chapter CAMS or with the sequence of operations for changing the cam data.
Notes:
0 The tool monitoring 1 to 8 can be deselected under MONIT. SELECTION via the
PLUS/MINUS key. By selecting a tool monitoring the corresponding machine data
bit is set. The texts in the input field NAME are stored in a subroutine
(standardized as MONITORINGl, MONITORING2 etc.) and may be changed as
desired.
l Under I/O ASSIGNMENT you can freely assign the cam inputs (cam signals) to the
monitoring inputs (sensor signals) for a maximum of 8 monitorings. There is 1 input byte
each for monitoring inputs MONIT. IB and cam inputs CAM IB.
- When a byte No. between 0 and 46 is input in the CAM IB field, a plausibility check is
carried out to verify whether or not a cam input is available in the hardware. If this
input exists, the byte No. in the MONIT. IB field is automatically raised by one.
- You can assign cams of 0 to 20 to the individual bits of the CAM IB in the CAM NO.
fields. It is also possible to use one cam No. for several bits.
- It is possible to input a byte No. between 0 and 47 and a bit No. between 0 and 7 into
the ALARM OUTPUT fields. Via this output an EMERGENCY STOP of the press may
be put into effect.
l All input values in this menu are stored in machine data.
Notes:
l DB 82 is the interface between the control and the external tool protection (external tool
protection interface).
l For commissioning and use of the function, please observe the pertinent chapter of our
COMMISSIONING INSTRUCTIONS.
This menu is intended for rapid and simple project planning. The press operator interface of
SINUMERIK 805SM-P contains the text fields from TEXT 1 to TEXT 99 with the appertaining
input field (R parameters). The texts in the NAME input field are stored in a subroutine. The
texts offered are standard texts and can be changed as may be desirable.
Example:
TEXT 18 field in the press operator interface should be named EXAMPLE and the value in the
pertaining input field should be stored in R PARAMETER R900. The input fields NAME and
RIPARAMETER in the Text 18 line must be changed as described in the chapter entitled
ENTRY IN INPUT FIELDS.
Note:
Depending on the SW version, the general texts are subdivided as indicated below:
for SW version 1 and 2: Text 1 - Text 84 for user-specific tool data
for SW version 1 and 2: Text 85 - Text 99 for user-specific actual value indication
for SW version 3: Text 1 - Text 99 for user-specific tool data
With this menu you determine the distribution of the tool data (R parameters).
If the options PRESSURE MODULE, ROLL FEED and/or TOOL PROTECTION are available,
the system software calculates in each case the 1st R parameter in the working memory. This
suggestion for the 1st R parameter can be changed by the user. The value can only be in-
creased.
The TOTAL AMOUNT OF TOOL DATA for 1 tool consists of the following:
. STANDARD AMOUNT OF TOOL DATA:
100 standard parameters + 6 parameters for the 1st axis + 4 parameters for each further
axis; max. 118 parameters
. ADDITIONAL USER TOOL DATA (TMTS):
max. 84 parameters for SW version 1 and 2, max. 99 parameters for SW version 3
. 1st PARAMETER FOR PRESSURE MODULE:
3 standard parameters + 2 parameters for each sensor; max. 11 parameters
. 1st PARAMETER FOR ROLL FEED:
2 standard parameters + 10 parameters for each axis + 3 parameters per block; max. 67
parameters
. 1st PARAMETER FOR TOOL PROTECTION:
4 parameters per monitoring; max. 32 parameters
In the input field TOTAL AMOUNT OF TOOL DATA ACT the suggested number can be
accepted or a rounded number may be input.

l By actuating the RECALL key you return to the DATA TRANSFER basic display.
With the STOP softkey you can interrupt the data input any
time. Renewed actuation of the READ-IN START continues
the data input.
Notes:
During input via punched tape the input data are checked for simple errors.
All characters of a punched tape code have a common identifier.
The control automatically recognizes the correct code at the first “%“(lSO) or “EOR” (EIA)
reading.
The criterium “even number of holes” or “odd number of holes” is used for a character parity
check as from the second character of the program.
A further check in the form of complete program comparison is carried out on repeated read-in
of a program already existing in the program memory.
When an error is identified, the read-in process is stopped and the error is displayed on the
screen.

Notes:
l With the cursor keys you can select the type of data to be read out.
l In the case of data types with area specification you can indicate the area to be
transferred. To do this, you enter the desired values into the corresponding input fields as
described in the chapter entitled ENTRIES IN INPUT FIELDS.
l The data output is started by actuating the READ-OUT START sof-tkey. The data
earmarked for read-out are displayed on the screen.
l You can stop the data output any time via the STOP softkey and continue the data output
via the READ-OUT START softkey.
l The ASM/PLC DATA OUTPUT softkey is available in the initialization mode only (alarm 3:
PLC STOP pending).
By actuating the ASM/PLC DATA OUTPUT softkey, the data stored on the user memory
module (PLC modules, machine data, etc.) can be read out. For the read-out, the desired
data type is selected via the cursor keys and started with the READ-OUT START softkey.
By actuating the STANDARD DATA OUTPUT softkey, you go back to the previous menu.
In the text bar the ASMlPLC DATA OUTPUT softkey appears again.
Note:
l The data read out via the mass storage can also be read in again via the mass storage
(the read-in via other equipment like programmers, PCs, .. . is not guaranteed).
l You can enable or disable the DELETE and FORMAT functions for the operator.
Upon execution of the DIRECTORY function, the version of the disk drive, the free memory
space on the floppy disk in kbyte and the storage capacity of the floppy disk in kbyte is
displayed in the 1st line of the contents,
e.g. as follows:
This chapter describes the scope of functions of the disk drive from version DG-SM 2.0
onwards. Disk drives supplied earlier have a limited scope of functions.
The data or functions are transferred or carried out via the saved procedure 3964R (see also
functions manual COMMUNICATION, SINUMERIK 805SM). The operating mode 3964R of the
disk drive must be selected,
Furthermore, the operating modes RECEIVE and SEND can be selected with the DG-SM. The
RECEIVE operating mode stores all data which are read out by the SINUMERIK 805SM via the
corresponding interface into the SETUP805DAT file. In the SEND operating mode, the con-
tents of this file can be transferred from the disk drive to the control. By using the RECEIVE
and SEND operating modes, it is possible to save all data required for a complete commis-
sioning of the SINUMERIK 805SM or to transfer these data to the control again.

Note:
l The interface and order number used for the commissioning of the DG-SM has to be
written into the corresponding fields (e.g. interface 2 and order number 1).
l For operating the DG-SM via the READ-OUT, READ-IN, DELETE and DIRECTORY
softkeys, only the inputs in the fields DIRECTORY, FILE and READ-OUT: FROM: TO:
(only applies for the READ-OUT softkey) are relevant.
l If an error occurs during the execution of a function, e.g. READ-IN, it is displayed in the
STATUS FIELD and in the DISPLAY OF ERROR MESSAGES as follows:
READ-IN Error 1 3120 Data number invalid
l In order to save data types, select the READ-OUT field via the cursor keys. Upon actuating
the SELECT softkey, you obtain the following data types subsequently: NC subroutines,
NC/PLC machine data, global R parameters, R parameters channel l/2 and setting data.
The fields FROM and TO display for each data type the maximum range, which may be
changed (reduced).
E.g. the following directory and file structure has been stored on the floppy disk in the DG-SM:
WKZ21
WKZ22
WKZ40
wKz41
Depending on the contents of the DIRECTORY and FILE fields, e.g. the following list of
contents (CONTENTS:) is displayed upon actuating the DIRECTORY softkey:
z570010 <DIR>
2570020 <DIR>
WKzl 300
WKZ2 360
WKZB 480
l In the 1st line of the list of contents (CONTENTS:) the version of the disk drive, the free
memory space on the floppy disk (in kbyte) and the storage capacity of the floppy disk (in
kbyte) is displayed, e.g. as follows:
l
l Files are displayed in the list of contents (CONTENTS:) with the file name and the file
length, directories with the directory name and the extension < DIR >.
l A maximum nesting depth of 6 is possible in the directories. For indicating the directory
structure, the signs “/” or “\,, are permitted.
Note:
l When the window is open, the FORMAT function is started and displayed in the status
field upon actuating the INPUT key. After the function has been executed, the window is
closed.
l If you strike the RECALL key when the window is open, the window is closed and the
function is not carried out.
DIRECTORY, FILE and READ-OUT: FROM: TO: (only applies for the
READ-OUT softkey) must be filled in. You may enable or disable the
DELETE function for the user.
The actuation of the softkeys mentioned above may have e.g. the following effect, depending
on the contents of the DIRECTORY and FILE fields:
DIRECTORY Description
I
Note:
l In the TOOL NO. field also numbers with a point may be entered, e.g. 10.1, 22.3.
l Upon actuating the DELETE softkey, the window DELETE FILE? appears. When the
INPUT key is pressed, the function is carried out and displayed in the status field. After the
function has been carried out, the window is closed. When the window is open, the
actuation of the RECALL key closes the window without the function being carried out.
l Only empty directories can be deleted.
Note:
In the menu PARAMETER RS232 COMPUTER LINK INTERFACE 1 or INTERFACE 2, the
function COMPUTER LINK must be activated before (see also the chapter entitled
COMMISSIONING OF DG-SM).
Note:
l The SETUP805DAT file is overwritten when another data backup is carried out.
l In the menu PARAMETER RS232 COMPUTER LINK INTERFACE 1 or INTERFACE 2, the
interface for the DG-SM must be disconnected before (see also the chapter entitled
COMMISSIONING OF DG-SM).
Note:
In the menu PARAMETER RS232 COMPUTER LINK INTERFACE 1 or INTERFACE 2, the
COMPUTER LINK function must be switched off before (see also the chapter entitled
COMMISSIONING OF DG-SM).
Note:
Data backup and commissioning is carried out in the operating mode 3964R.
4.4.7.1 Data backup with the DG-SM in the operating mode RECEIVE
Prerequisites:
l The commissioning of the installation has been finished.
l The disk drive is connected to the power supply and the cable between DG-SM and
control is connected to interface 1 or 2 (option SECOND RS232 INTERFACE).
l Two formatted floppy disks (3,5” / MS-DOS format) are available.
l The operating mode 3964R of the disk drive is selected and the COMPUTER LINK
function in the menu PARAMETER RS232 COMPUTER LINK INTERFACE 1 or
INTERFACE 2 is switched off.
l The interface parameters for the interface to which the DG-SM is connected are set as
follows (if necessary note down the settings before changing the parameters and special
functions).
Note:
The sequence of operations for changing parameters and special functions is described in
the chapter entitled DATA READ-OUT VIA RS232 INTERFACE.
Considering commissioning with the backed-up data, it seems appropriate to distribute the data
backup on two floppy disks.
Floppy disk 1: NC and PLC machine data, PLC modules and setting data.
Floppy disk 2: NC subroutines, global R parameters, R parameters channel 1 and channel 2.
Note:
l The list of contents of the floppy disks may be checked using the disk drive, and the con-
tents of the SETUP805.DAT files using external equipment (e.g. programmers, PC, . ..).
l The PLC blocks can be read out only in case of data output in the INITIALIZATION menu
upon actuating the ASM/PLC DATA OUTPUT softkey.
l The interface parameters for data backup with the DG-SM are stored in the setting data.
When connecting a different device to this interface, the interface parameters must be
changed accordingly.
Note:
When connecting a different device to the interface for the DG-SM, the interface parameters
must be altered accordingly.

(e.g. plastic foil, insulating table tops, clothing made of synthetic fibers).
The battery voltage is checked cyclically with the control switched on. If the voltage is lower
than 2.7 V, NC alarm 1 (battery fault) is indicated on the screen.
Note:
The battery may only be replaced with the control switched on.
In central controllers of the 230 V version the battery (batteries) is (are) fitted at the bottom
right and in the 24 V version in the power supply unit proper.
Replacement of the battery and the battery modules as well as the batteries are described
in the manual START-UP INSTRUCTIONS and INTERFACE DESCRIPTION PART 2:
ELECTRICAL OPERATING CONDITIONS.
The provisions on waste disposal must be complied with as far as disposal of run-down
batteries are concerned.
5.4 Cleaning
The front side of the monitor and the surface of the keyboard can be cleaned. For this
common rinsing agents used in dish-washers or the industrial “Spezial Swipe” detergent
should be employed in the case of unproblematic dirt. These detergents also dissolve graphite-
containing dirt particles.
Detergents containing one or several of the ingredients mentioned below may be used on a
short-time basis:
l Diluted mineral acids
l Bases
. Alcohol
l Organic hydrocarbons
l Dissolved detergents
l Fats and oils
6 Monitoring
In the controller monitoring systems are continuously active which detect malfunctions in the
NC, the programmable logic control and the machine so early that damage to the work piece,
the tool and the machine can be largely excluded.
In case of trouble, the machining process is first interrupted and the drives are stopped, the
cause for the malfunctions is stored and displayed as alarm. At the same time the PLC is
informed via an interface signal that an NC alarm is active.
Monitoring systems exist for following areas:
Read-in
Format
Servo loop cable
Displacement device and drive
Contour
Main drive
Enabling signal
Voltage
Microprocessor
Serial interface
Transfer between NC and PLC
State of back-up battery
Executive program memory
Application program memory
Furthermore, the user of the PLC has 64 PLC alarms and 64 PLC messages as well as 100
user cycle alarms at his disposal. The corresponding texts are transferred to the battery-
backed memory area of the controller via the RS232 interface.
