Assigment 1.4 Tuesday Siesta Apply

Implied Theme: "Tuesday Siesta" is a story that shows us a theme rather than explicitly

stating it.
One of the themes implied is the tension between poverty and dignity.
Find passages in the text where this theme is developed and interpret them. Your response
should be one paragraph.

Identify one passage where the story gives us details about the characters' poverty  and

three passages where the story shows the characters behaving with dignity. For the passage,
write two sentences of interpretation: What facts does it present, and what do they mean?  Then,
conclude your Apply by discussing what the moral of the story is with respect to poverty
and dignity . Your Apply should be no more than 150 words, not including the passages
from the story.

All attached documents must have a proper header that includes your name at the top of the
document. If you submit a document that does not include your name and a header, it will be
rejected and you will have to resubmit the assignment with the proper header.

-You'd better put the glass up," said the woman. You'll get coal in your hair. The girl tried to do

class carriage." This paragraph speaks of the poverty of these women traveling in a poor class
on the train.

-When he returned to the seat, his mother was waiting for him to eat. She gave him a piece of
cheese, half a corn muffin and a sweet cookie, and took out an equal ration for her from the
plastic bag". Reference is made to the fact that they were very poor but nevertheless they
shared the food equally, so neither of them went hungry which was a very worthy fact.

-He is the thief who was killed here last week," said the woman in the same tone. I am his
mother. The reference here is to the woman feeling worthy of being a thief's mother.

-I used to tell him never to steal anything that someone needed to eat, and he listened to me.
On the other hand, when he used to box, he would spend three days in bed, bedridden by the
blows. -He had to pull out all his teeth," said the girl. -That's right," the woman confirmed.
Every bite I ate at that time tasted like the beatings they gave my son on Saturday nights". The
reference here is to the man stealing to feed his family.

The text teaches us not to judge anyone because we do not know the reasons that led the
person to make such mistakes, and that no matter what a person is like, the family will always
be there to support you no matter what the situation.
