Shakespeare creates dramatic effects in his play with elements of aristotelian and senecan
trageedies by using variation in methods of stagecraft. An example of this can be seen in Act 3
Scene 2 when Hamlet has the players perform "The Mousetrap" to the whole courtroom.
Shakespears justaposion between public and private spaces that is explored throughout the play
is effective in creating extra tension in the plot of the play hiding and exposing secrets sch as the
killimg of old king Hamlet at the hands of Claudius. This scene involving all characters on stage is
in direct contras to the next scene in which Claudus repents to god exposing his sins.

Additionally, Claudius exclaiming "give me some light; away!" is a metaphor for his hidden
secret being exposed in the way things hidden in the dark are exposed by light. This is closely
related to the repeated motif of the play of seems vs is as Claudius seems innocent to his
subjects of Denmark but in reality he has murdered the old king. This created drama for the
audience as Claudius outburst reveals to us for the first time that Hamlets suspicions are true.
This confirms to us as an audience the legitamcy of the ghost of old Hamlet which we meet in
the first act of the play where we are somewhat suspicious about the characters motives.

Structure and dialog create dramatic effects in the use of rhyme in Hamlets speech. This breaks
up the prose with a more rhythmic dialog "why, let the stricken deer go weep, the hear ungalled
play; for some must watch, while some must sleep: so runs the world away.". In this dialog we
get a sense for Hamlets smug tone of sucess as he feels this reaction from Claudius is evidance
for his claim of murder. This also creates emphisis on the importance of the discovery that
Hamlet has just made as it is the cause of the tragic events that occur later in the play as
chacracters begun to muder and turn on eachother due to the corruption the king has caused in
his bloody act.
