and he is a African American. He is an activist who became the most visible spokesperson and the leader of the civil rights movement from 1955.
At that time, the black are being treated
terribly by the white. They cannot sit together in the bus, the water fountains needed to be separated and the police often bully or treat the black unequally.
On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks went to bus
and found out the column where the black can only seat is full and she sat on where th white people seat. But then when people request her to leave, she refused and got arrested. Rosa soon became the symbol of the resulting Montgomery bus boycott and received national publicity. She was later hailed as the "mother of the civil rights movement". When King saw the black people being treated unequally, he stood up and joined the protest. Local leaders established the Montgomery Improvement Association to focus their efforts and Martin Luther King was elected President of this organization. The lengthy protest attracted national attention for him and the city. His eloquent appeals to Christian brotherhood and American idealism created a positive impression on people both inside and outside the South.
The protests kept coming and there were
freedom rides, sit-ins and more non-violence protests to try to get the freedom.
On 28 August, 1963, in Washington DC,
Martin Luther King had his famous I Have A Dream speech which contained the following dreams: meaningful civil rights laws a massive federal works program full and fair employment decent housing the right to vote adequate integrated education.
The march was a success, although not
without controversy. An estimated 200,000 to 300,000 demonstrators gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
The government finally gave freedom to black
people in America and King’s goal has achieved.
Sadly, King is assassinated in April 4, 1968 by
Jams Earl Ray. Although Martin Luther King is not here anymore, but he inspired thousands of people in the world, helped more people to gain freedom and rights.
