Abalone is expensive because it is difficult to grab them in tonnes.


Abalone has to be handpicked one by one. A diver has to dive into the sea
to look for them, pick a few, then carry it back to shore before starting all
over again.

ABALONE

Awabi is the Japanese word for Abalone, which are edible sea snails of the
Halliotidae family. When served raw, the male abalone is preferred, whereas the
female is best suited to cooking or steaming..The flesh is actually the foot
muscle. In Japanese culture, abalone is consumed raw, steamed, salted, boiled,
or simmered in soya sauce. When used for sushi, the ingredient is either raw or
even live.

used for the purpose of consumption and people use its shells for
decoration purpose. As its shells contains attractive colors.
