About the Tutorial

There is an in-game tutorial that will show you the ropes as you actually play the game.
Give it a try if anything is still unclear after reading this page.

Main Shot

Fire the Main Shot with the Z key.

It will continue firing as long as the key is held down, making it efficient for taking out large swaths of weak targets.

Lock-on Shot

Fire a Lock-on Shot by pressing the Z key while holding down Shift.
Your ship's options will lock-on to the any targets you hit and start attacking.
The lock-on duration lasts for a fair amount of time, making it an ineffective attack against fast-moving targets.

*Be careful! Your ship's mobility drops while you're firing the Lock-on Shot.

**You can also set your button configuration in the Configuration Tool so that holding down the Z key fires the
Lock-on Shot.

How to use the Lock-on Shot (Ex: Miria)

[1]

Press the Z key while holding Shift

to fire a laser from your ship.

[2]

Target hit! Lock-on initiated!

[3]

Your options will then lock onto the hit target,

and continue to fire at it until it is destroyed.

M.E.F.A2 (Mood-Emotion-Feeling-Affect Attack)

Fire the M.E.F.A2 (additional attack) with the X key.

Tap the button rapidly 2 to 4 times in succession to unleash an even stronger attack.

The M.E.F.A2 is a very powerful attack. The M.E.F.A2 Gauge charges up relatively quickly though,
so don't hold back. Fire away!

The M.E.F.A2 also knocks back its targets, and if those targets are destroyed by the M.E.F.A2 while the hit counter is
displayed, a score bonus is applied relative to the M.E.F.A2 level.

Similarly, a bonus relative to the M.E.F.A2 level is also applied to the hit counter while knocked back.
For details on each character's M.E.F.A2, please check the Characters page.

M.E.F.A2 Gauge

Firing the M.E.F.A2 uses up 1 level of the M.E.F.A2 gauge, visible on the bottom left of your screen.
Up to six levels can be charged and stocked at once.

Knockback (Stun)

Targets hit by a level 3 and level 4 M.E.F.A2 will be knocked back.

Knocked-back targets are temporarily immobilized, giving you a chance to attack.
(A ring appears around a target that has been knocked back.)
Use this opportunity to pile on M.E.F.A2 attacks before it recovers!

Furthermore, shooting knocked back targets charges up your M.E.F.A2 Gauge faster, as well as spawning items that
charge up your Concept Reactor Gauge.

After the knockback wears off, the number of hits dealt during that time is displayed and added to your score.

Concept Reactor
Fire the Concept Reactor with the C key.
The Concept Reactor turns all enemy bullets on the screen into destructible objects.
Destroy these objects to quickly charge up your M.E.F.A2 Gauge.
(Note that this is not a screen-clearing attack as commonly found in shoot 'em ups.)

Concept Reactor Gauge

Check the status of the Concept Reactor with the Concept Reactor Gauge on the bottom left of your screen.

This gauge charges up when you pick up items. You can have up to 3 at once.
(The number of dots above the gauge tells you how many you have available.)

The Concept Reactor has no effect on laser-type attacks, and will not transform them into destructible objects.

Items

Items appear when you destroy a target.

Pick up these items to charge up your Concept Reactor Gauge.

The type of item that appears depends on the distance between your ship and the destroyed target.

The closer you are to the target, the higher the item's level, and the further the target is from your ship, the lower the
item's level.
High level items charge up the Concept Reactor Gauge faster when picked up.

Furthermore, the faster you pick up an item after it appears, the more it charges up the Concept Reactor Gauge, so
make haste!

Picking Up Items

Destroy a target from up close and you will automatically collect its items.
You can also pick them up by moving your ship close to them.

Furthermore, if you destroy a target with the M.E.F.A2, all items will be collected automatically.
Keep in mind that any items collected this way will all be level 3, regardless of distance.

How to Get Extra Ships

Get an extra ship by collecting a certain amount of items.

You get an extra ship each time you:
- collect 500 items (up until the 1,000th item)
- collect 1,000 items (up until the 3,000th item)
- collect 3,000 items (up until the 15,000th item)
- collect 10,000 items after your 15,000th item
You can have a maximum of 10 extra ships.
