Volunteer (Education Program) Questions

1. What do you think is the most important aspect of creating a welcoming and safe
environment for kids?

When caring for kids, I believe it is of upmost importance to have good communication with
them. This includes allowing them to express concerns, wants, and needs to you. I believe its
important to be positive and set good examples for them. Another important thing you can do is
participate in things they enjoy with them like playing games.

2. Have you heard of Homeless No More? If so, please share what you know? What
interests you in working with the children in our program?

I have not heard of Homeless No More but after doing some research I’m excited to take part in
the organization! I’m interested in working with children in this program to further gain
experience working with children,

3. Please share your previous experience in working with children.

Besides the experience I have received with the many in children in my family, I also have a lot
of professional experience working with children. I used to work in a school, tutoring children
with their reading and writing. More recently, I worked in a children’s museum as a Museum
Educator.

4. When working with a group of children, how do you ensure everyone receives the
attention they need?

A good practice to ensure all children receive the attention they need is to plan activities that
everyone can participate in. It’s also important to be familiar with what each kids’ specific needs
are.

5. How do you handle children who tend to pull more of your focus or who need
more one-on-one attention?

Children who require more attention may be content if you give them a specific role or job so
that they remain occupied. You can also ensure that you are acknowledging them consistently,
even with nonverbal communications such as smiling and nodding at them.
