Hi Roja. It’s a pleasure meeting you.

I fell in love with scent when I was a small boy. I
was intrigued by how each bottle on my mother’s
dressing table gave such a different scent – each
like a genie waving its spell, transporting us away
from the mundane to worlds full of fantasy.

Then, many years later, I met a wonderful old

lady who was telling me about the perfume her
mother had always worn and loved. On smelling
the perfume again, for the first time in many,
many years, she immediately started crying. A
single sniff of her mother’s much loved fragrance
had instantly triggered memory and emotion in

The magic of oudh

and its importance in
the Khaleeji way of life :
Due to the pleasant scent that can be achieved
by burning oudh, it plays a significant role in
festive celebrations and ceremonies for Arabs,
especially those of the Gulf States. Traditionally,
the scent of oudh is imbibed at Arabic weddings
by passing around an incense burner, a ritual of
honor practiced to this date. Each guest wafts
themselves with the smoke of oudh, ensuring
their clothing and head-dresses are saturated
with the fragrance.

In addition to the guests, the bride and groom

also perfume themselves with the rich, woody
scent of oudh. More than just a desirable
scent, the use of oudh as a whole, especially at
weddings, is a reflection of one’s social status
and refinement. Guests arrive wearing their best
perfumes to honour the bride and groom, and
leave honoured by the hosts, whose social
prestige is enhanced by the pleasant smell they
impart to their guests. The ritual also promotes a
feeling of bonding and unity, where guests arrive
differently-scented, and leave bound together by
a single, shared fragrance.

At social gatherings, oudh is placed in a

mubakhar in the majlis to signify the end of the
visit, after which the guests depart. As a sign
of generosity and prosperity, the groom’s family
provides a gift of ‘Dahn al Oudh’ (the liquid
essence of oudh) to each guest.

There are three types of products

that are used as incense:
a) Oudh (Agarwood)
b) Oudh Moattar (Agarwood with fragrance)
c) Dakhoon Tablets (Tablets created using fine
crushed agarwood post distillation process)

How does one increase the longevity

of fragrances?
There are several techniques that can be
employed to increase the longevity of your
fragrance. For example, one tip is to layer the
different products within the range; first use
the shower gel, then apply the lotion and finally
finish off with a layer of the fragrance itself.
This will reinforce the presence of the fragrance
across your body and therefore increase the
longevity. The moisture level of your skin is
also an important element that determines how
well the fragrance will be absorbed, so make
sure that your skin is well-moisturised before
you apply your fragrance. You may also want to Should one apply fragrance on clothes
