TASK I

The graph below shows the total value of exports and the value of fuel, food and
manufactured goods exported by one country from 2000 to 2005.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant.

The presented line graphs represent the total value of exports and the value of selected
exports like fuel, food and manufactured goods in one country from 2000 to 2005. In general, the
total value of exports grew up considerably during last three years while, the value of exports of
fuel declined throughout the period.

As is presented in the graph, in 2000, the total value of exports was 300000 million
dollars , which showed a decline until year 2002 and reached 250000 million dollars. However
after 2002 the total value of exports rose significantly to reach its peak 430000 million dollars in
2005.

Turning to the second graph it can be seen that, in 2002 the value of the fuel export was
the highest among the other goods. However, it declined gradually over the period and reached
nearly half of the initial value that is 200000 million dollars. On the other hand, even though the
value of exports of food fluctuated over the years, the value remained almost same in both year
2000 and 2005. Similarly, the value of export of manufactured goods was fairly constant during
the given period, which was nearly 20000 million dollars and the lowest value among the others.
TASK II

Do you think the educational benefits of testing outweigh any disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own
knowledge or experience.

Although evaluations and tests considered to be a crucial element of school education, it can be
detrimental to students. In my opinion, i think that tests in school education can bring about more
problems for children compared to any advantages it might bring.

Admittedly, there are some basic benefits of students having academic tests and
examinations. This helps to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each student, so that
remedial actions can be taken when ever necessary. In other words, the evaluation is important
for the development and betterment of students. Moreover, it is rather difficult to check whether
the goals of education are being met or not, without evaluation.

Nevertheless, despite the advantages above, I believe school students could face serious
drawbacks from examinations. One potentially dangerous problem is it exposes them to
unnecessary stress and unhealthy competition. Another obvious issue is that poor performance in
examinations can cause a deleterious effect on child’s life. For instance, the child who gets lower
grades consistently can easily get demotivated and gradually loses self confidence. This can have
a long term impact which even affects the social life of individuals.

In conclusion, being exposed to unnecessary stress or struggling with emotional problems
due to poor academic grades during school years outweighs any of the minor benefits that could
bring the tests and examinations in schools.
