© Annemarie Benthem
Hello,

Thank you for buying one of my patterns! On this page I'll tell you about the materials you need to
make this pattern and everything else you need to know before you get started. You will need:

- A crochet hook, size 2.50mm.

- An inner cushion of 40 centimeters wide and high
- I used 1 ball of each of the following colors of the brand Phildar Coton 3:

73 Gold
3 Ciel
59 Menthe
63 Citron
57 Guimauve
42 Piscine
39 Faience
8 Mercure
70 Melon

You find detailed information about this yarn in this online shop:
http://www.lovecrochet.com/phildar-phil-coton-3
Ofcourse you can use any other yarn you like, but please note that different yarns can make your
cushion cover larger or smaller.

All my patterns are in US crochet terms. I use the following abbreviations:

CH: chain
CH-SP: chain space
SC: single crochet
SS: slip stitch
DC: double crochet

If you don't know how to change color, you can go here for a clear tutorial:

How to join the squares

Make 16 squares using the method above. Join the squares by placing both squares on top of one
another with the right sides towards each other. Do 1 SC in the outer loops of each DC. Do 1 SC in
every chain-1-space and do 1SC in each corner. Do this for all squares until you have one large square
made out of 16 smaller squares.

Edging of the front

Attach the yarn in a corner space of the large square that's made out of mini squares. The front of
the pillow is facing you.
1. 1SC, chain 2 (counts as 1DC), 2DC in the same corner space, chain 2, 3DC in the same corner space.
2. (Chain 1, 3DC in the next chain-1-space) 4 times, chain 1, 3DC in the corner space of the square
below, skip the next corner space.
Repeat row 2 until you've reached the chain-2-space in the outer corner. Do 3DC in the chain-2-
space, chain 2, 3DC in the same chain-2-space.
Repeat row 2 until you've reached the first DC of this round. Do 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain. Fasten
off.
The back of the cushion
Note: change colour after every row.
1. Chain 4, 1 slip stitch in the first chain to make a ring.
2. Chain 3 (counts as 1DC), 2DC into ring, (chain 2, 3DC into ring) 3 times, chain 2, 1 slip stitch in
the 3rd chain that you made at the beginning of this row, (1 slip stitch in the next DC) 2
times.
3. 1SC, chain 2 (counts as 1DC), 2DC in chain-2-space, chain 2, 3DC in the same chain-2-space,
chain 1, (3DC in next chain-2-space, chain 2, 3DC in the same chain-2-space, chain 1) 3 times,
1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain that you made at the beginning of this row, (1 slip stitch in the
next DC) 2 times.
4. 1SC, chain 2 (counts as 1DC), 2DC in chain-2-space, chain 2, 3DC in the same chain-2-space,
chain 1, 3DC in the next chain-1-space, chain 1, (3DC in next chain-2-space, chain 2, 3DC in
the same chain-2-space, chain 1) 3 times, 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain that you made at the
beginning of this row, (1 slip stitch in the next DC) 2 times. Change colour.
Grow your square using the method above until your square has 21 rows.

How to join the front and the back

Place front and back on top of one another with the right sides facing the outside. Attach the yarn in
one corner. The front of the pillow is facing you. Do 1SC in both loops of the DC of the front and back.
So go through 4 loops in total. Do 1SC in each chain-1-space. In every corner you do: 1SC, chain 1,
1SC. If you want a closed cover, do this for all four sides. Make sure to put the pillow in the cover
before you start on the fourth side.

For the button closure: do the same as for a closed cover, just don't attach the front and the back of
the fourth side. After the last SC in the corner space of the third side you will go ahead with the front
of the cover. Do SC in the first two sets of 3DC and do 1SC in the chain-1-spaces. You don't do DC in
the third set of 3DC. Instead chain 4 (this is a loop for a button) and skip the set of 3DC below. Go
ahead and do 1SC in the chain-1-space and 1SC in each of the next DC. As you need more then one
button hole, don't do SC stitches in the 7th, 11th, 15th and 19th set of three DC. Instead: chain 4 just like
you did with the first set of three DC. Once you've done the front row, start with the back row. Don't
skip any stitches of the back. Just do 1SC in each DC, and 1SC in each chain-1-space. Fasten off when
you've reached the end. Sew buttons on the outside of the back cover.

Last but not least

Designing crochet patterns is a time-consuming and difficult job. I'd love to see you make as many
cushion covers as you like for yourself or to give as a gift. But please do not make copies of this
pattern, don’t distribute this pattern, don’t share it and don’t sell it as if it is your design. If you post
your own cushion cover somewhere on the WorldWideWeb, I’d love it if you refer to my blog or
shop. Enjoy!
