Design of pile & Pile Cap

Pile Cap of Two Piles:

Say, Pile value of 18 in dia, 55 ft long pile is 80 kips, and load on column is 105 kips.

Step 1: Moment

Load on each pile = 105/2 =52.5 kips

M = 52.5 × (2.25-.5) = 92 k '

Step 2: Depth
Load
Punching Shear = < 2√ f 'c
bo. d

105× 1000
= < 2√3000 [Assuming d= 15 in]
( 12+15+ 30 ) × 30
= 61 < 109

d req =
√ 92 X 12 =13.5 in
.15 X 42

Step 3: Steel

92× .5
As = = 3.1¿2 ;
15

So, 7-20mm ø

Step 4: Shear

V 1 = 52.5 kips

V 1 ×1000
V= ≥ 1.1√ f 'c
b×d

52.5× 1000
or, ≥ 1.1√3000
42× 15

or, 83 ≥ 60 so shear bar is needed

as × No . of leg× f s .12× 2×.45 × 60000

Shear Spacing = = =6.71 say 6.5 in c/c
( V −1.1 √ f ) × b
'
c
( 83−60 ) × 42

Provide, ø 10mm @ 6.5 in c/c

Pile Cap of Three Piles:

Say, Pile value of 18 in dia, 55 ft long pile is 80 kips, and load on column is 220 kips.

Step 1: Moment

Load on each pile = 74 kips

M = 74× (1.9167' ) = 142 k '

Step 2: Depth
Load
Punching Shear = < 2√ f 'c
bo. d

220 ×1000
= < 2√3000 [Assuming d= 21 in]
( 12+18+ 42 ) ×42
= 73 < 109

d req = 142 X 12 =16.5 in
.15 X 42

Step 3: Steel

142×.5
As = = 3.4¿2 ;
21

So, 8-20mm ø

42 ×21

or, 84 ≥ 60 so shear bar is needed

Shear Spacing = = =6.43 say 6 in c/c
