Learning English, A Contribution To The Professional
Development Of environmental Engineers
A professional sought after in today's working world must be able to put into practice the
knowledge acquired by demonstrating the skills and competencies acquired in vocational
training and be able to make the theoretical aspects work in the immediate work
environment. Universities are interested in providing professional training that responds
to the demands of a globalized society. Learning, practicing and mastering the English
language allows engineers to be more competitive and improve the production processes
of companies according to the needs of their workforce. Possessing a second language
offers graduates many advantages. Access to a wide range of information sources, better
employment opportunities, greater competitiveness, and responsiveness to the demands
of the environment at a personal, social, work and professional level. Otherwise, there
are few employment opportunities, low wages, and poor working conditions.

ENGLISH AS A FACTOR IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The teaching of English as a second language is aimed at developing in the subject the
corresponding skills to achieve their mastery. There are multiple reasons that justify
learning a foreign language: complementing a training, traveling to another country,
covering the modifications of a professional profile, among many others. This section will
focus on the training of this language in university students.

The increasing complexity of contemporary society and its globalizing condition require
other types of economic, academic, and human relations to influence the intellectual
development of the subjects.

English language learning should be planned and/or designed so that university students
acquire skills that will ensure their success in professional practice. To do this, students
are exposed to a series of self-explanatory language learning situations. Knowledge
2023-1
sharing requires consideration of a high degree of meaning, not only conceptually but
also culturally. Similarly, the level of education should be higher than the level of the
student and the level should be raised gradually.

Communication skills are constantly developing. This encourages interaction between

peers, facilitates the exchange of information, ideas and thoughts on specific aspects and
enriches language practice in natural environments.

The acquisition of English depends to a large extent on the attitudes and expectations
that the subjects have of themselves both in their professional life projects and in their
future professional life. Therefore, learning a foreign language is closely related to the
personal goals and intrinsic motivations of the student.

It also highlights the human capacity to acquire large amounts of knowledge, including
handling and distinguishing between one or more languages and their respective
grammatical rules.

Therefore, learning English depends to a large extent on an educational policy designed

and planned for it. It is difficult for the mastery of this language to be achieved with
classes of one, two or even three times a week when the family and social environment
does not contribute to it. Even learning English can be generated in the family itself when
the parents are of different nationalities and, meanwhile, in the environment two
languages are spoken.

TOWARDS NEW PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTS

During the training process, the subject develops or goes through a planning stage to
determine the career he wishes to pursue during his future studies. At the same time, he
strives to get an ideal job. This is determined by many influencing factors, such as the
quality of education, living in a globalized world and mastery of a language other than
one's mother tongue.

2023-1
Both factors make future professionals a mix of qualities and competitive opportunities,
either to get a position in an international company or to undertake their own project.

Being competitive or not depends a lot on who you are, what your expectations are when
choosing a career. Students and future professionals must choose what they are
passionate about to facilitate their transition to university and complete their training
cycle. If the subject does not have empathy or passion for what he is studying, or worse,
does not make sense of the knowledge he is acquiring, the result can be a total
disappointment and a refusal to take the next step: It is used and a vital or productive
stage begins. A productive attitude means meeting goals, embarking on new ones, and
constantly striving to meet the needs of the world of work that were not met by your
education. One of those requirements is knowledge of a second language. This is a factor
that facilitates the job search.

The social and working conditions that subjects have or may have because of any type of
vocational training depend on the methods they employ.

Depending on their career choice, people should focus their interests on one of the
professions shaping the future of technology. In other words, we need to consider what
personal interests and skills these professional market leaders must study their digital
specialties. If not, the subject will experience certain decontextualization’s. That is,
companies and positions or areas of work require specific actions.

CONCLUSION

Vocational training must start from the point of view of the individual, taking into
account the social and labour legislation in force and professional conditions. In this way,
you will be able to make the right decisions about your professional career, which is the
basis of your professional and professional development, which tends to change the
living conditions at the individual and family level. The ideal is an academic and
intellectual training that responds to the needs of the labor market. When candidates
know they have the right skills, they will be more confident in handling the challenges
presented by their work environment.
Learning English is another factor of competitiveness in this globalized world. Given the
context of this type of society, acquiring skills is a valuable resource of cultural capital.
This means that more skills influence entry into the labour market. Acquiring a second
language builds personal confidence and makes it easier to find work in a variety of
working conditions.
A wide range of employment and career opportunities are available when choosing a
professional career according to the current situation and technological advancements.
In addition, learning and mastering a second language increases your chances of rapid
integration into the job market. Similarly, you can gain another perspective on the
activities performed in a particular workspace. Since companies have international
business relationships, people are more productive when their means of communication
is in this language.

Technology and digital developments are and will continue to be part of our lives. In most
situations, it is an integral part of the subject's existence, as it affects every activity or
stage of the subject. Humans, on the other hand, must use their adaptability to resist and

survive in this increasingly complex world.

The complexity of today's society is the result of the development of knowledge,

translated into scientific and technological progress, whose purpose is to improve the
living conditions of its citizens. These advances also lead to changes at the individual and
societal levels. In the first situation, subjects change their attitudes towards access to
knowledge and become competitive and productive subjects, thus improving their quality
of life.

A competitive personality is determined by the amount of knowledge a subject

possesses, which is reflected in the ability to use it at any given time. Subjects should
adopt a similar attitude, given the ever-evolving nature of knowledge. Knowledge
translated into skills must be constantly updated to maintain its effectiveness and suggest
alternative solutions to personal and professional problems.
