Holidays can place huge demands on our finances. There's a lot of free time to fill Up and we all ike to do special things and create great memories. But, as our listeners frequently point out, most of the activities around town are becoming very expensive these days. In particular, shopping and eating out can get very pricey. So we thought we'd put together a guide to some activities you can do on a tight budget. Let's start with 2 favourite — the picnic. Now picnics can take a lot of time to prepare and by the time you've bought plastic plates and cutlery they can be expensive. But you can simplify things by heading out afteriunciy for a sweet picnic. Just pack a sweet treat that you've baked and invite your friends to join you in the local park. ‘And if baking's net your strong point, ask your friends to bring their own creations. Besides, the really great part about a picnic is the space to play in afterwards - one hundred per cent free entertainment. Have you tried picnic volleyball, for instance? You play by getting into two teams and using ‘two picnie"blankets to toss and catch a ball, Another idea that your families will love is a park treasure hunt. Before you leave, print off pictures of things you might find outdoors. Include creatures like ducks or rabbits and objects such as benches or flowers. You can then hide the pictures, and everyone can compete to find as many of them as possible. If you don't want to take food with you, why not collect the food that nature has to offer? Foraging is an increasingly popular activity, partly due to ideas from TWachefs. Of course, people enjoy collecting summer fruits, such as blackberries, but don’t forget the leaves that grow vigorously over the summer months. Jack-by-the- hedge, for example, is a wonderful leaf you can add tosalads, Foraging is great fun, but of course you can save ‘on your food bills too, by turning the things you collect into jams or soups. Take note, though, not everything out there is good to eat. ‘and making sure you have all the information you need you can stay safe, however. And, if in doubt, leave it out! @ BRITISH @@ COUNCIL IELTS Coach Listening L3 [Xbetenandanener th uestone ‘Questions 1 and 2 (Choose TWO letters, A-F Which TWO pieces of information about geocaching are mentioned by the speaker? In this activity, people hide containers of different types around the city or across the vast expanse of countryside, in places that aren't too obvious. The containers may have a few interesting items inside, like coins from foreign countries that people have collected, or they may contain some small toys or useful items like hand-warmers, which are very popular. The person that hides the container then uploads its exact position to geocaching.com and, using a smartphone, you can go and find the cache. Once you've managed to find it, you sign log book to record your success — you can do that online as well — and swap one of the items from the container with something similar of your own. It's fun, Keeps you fit, and you can do it all for free. But fits raining, or you'd like to do something less energetic, you might consider organising a DVD night for a few close friends. Going to the cinema is one of the most popular leisure activities, but by the time you've paid for the popcorn, soft drinks and movie tickets, it can be disastrous for the bank balance. If you're lucky enough to have a library near you, you can borrow a DVD, usually for a very small fee, pick up someworn.to share from a supermarket and do it all yourself.
