Australia
This final case exercise will be composed by a case study to be read by
students in advance and to be solve at home. The students will have to answer
four essay questions.

 Answer the following four questions independently.

 Each question should be answered in no more than 300 words. In
any case, the four answers per together should not be longer
than 1200 words. If these limits are not respected, your final grading
might be penalized.
 The case and your class’ notes provide you with all the needed
information to answer the questions, but you may draw on additional
data and sources as long as you properly cite them.
 The answers to the four questions need to be written in the same doc
file.
 Be aware that your answers will go through a plagiarism software, so
please cite adequately, and do not copy and paste unless extremely
necessary.
 Pay attention to grammar and spelling mistakes. They might penalize
your final grading.
 Annexes are not allowed. All the information should be
included within the answers.

This assessment will be graded according to the following points:

 Accuracy and comprehensiveness in answering the proposed

questions (10%)
 Quality of analysis and innovation in proposal (10%)
 Quality of graphs, charts and conclusions (5%)

Questions:

1. (30% - 300 words) The case offers several tables with economic data
about Australia. What have been the main tradeoffs between growth,
inflation, savings and investment in the last 20 years in Australia?
2. (30% - 300 words) Using the data from the case, what would you
consider are the main economic challenges Australia is facing
nowadays?
3. (30% - 300 words) Make an assessment of the competitiveness of
Australia, especially on the non-mining sectors. What would be your
opinion on how to improve competitiveness in the country?
4. (10% - 300 words) Will Australia be a good place to invest in few years?
