Title “CAPACITATING TEACHERS ON THE EARLY
LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND NUMERACY (ELLN)
WITH A FOCUS ON THE SCIENCE OF READING”

Rationale Early Languages, Literacy and Numeracy (ELLN) focuses


on capacitating the kindergarten to Grade 3 teachers and
instructional leaders on the basic knowledge and
pegadogical skills in literacy and numeracy and in
establishing and managing a school-based
mentoring/learning partnership program as a mechanism
for continuous professional development of teachers,
school managers and instructional leaders and an avenue
for teachers to listen to storytelling and read aloud
activities from the best storytellers through the School –
Based Learning Action Cell, per DepEd Order No. 12, s.
2015. Guidelines on the Early Languages, Literacy and
Numeracy Program that will develop Filipino children
Literacy and Numeracy skills and attitudes which will
contribute to lifelong learning. More specifically, it aims to
improve reading and numeracy skills of Kinder to Grade 3
pupils, following K-12 Basic Education Curriculum, and to
establish a sustainable and cost-effective professional
development system for teachers.

 Apply varied teaching reading strategies in their
teaching-learning practices.

Session Objectives:
At the end of every session, the participants are expected
to:
 Upskill their capacity to use a knowledge-based
pedagogy;
 Become effective reading planners;
 Apply an appropriate teaching reading strategies in
their teaching-learning practices that fits every
learners’ needs, and;
Promote and sustain a culture of reading in schools, and
even in the communities.

Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (RPMS-
PPST) for SY 2022-2023, Consolidated School
Development Plan specifically, address on Functional
Competency, specifically on the:
