Itmay be applied by analogy to the components of lifting appliances that are subject to similar stresses, but doesnot cover cast hooks (ct. Explanatory notes). 2 Mechanical properties Table 1 species tiv strength classes, according to the! mechanical properties that hooks are expected to have. Note that forged point hooks and ramshorn hooks shal also comply with the raquiremante set out in DIN 15.404 Part 1, DIN 17 103 and DIN 17 200, and laminated hooks with those in DIN 15404 Part 2 and DIN 17 102, ‘To verity the resistance of hooks to brittle fracture, a IN 50 116 notched bar impact tost shall be cartled out at ~20°C on an 1S0-Vnotch specimen, For forged nooks, tst pieces shallbe taken inthe longitudinal crection (denoted by'L’sct table 1), pre= {erably trom the outer third of the shank cross section. For laminated hooks, they shallbe taken fromthe sheet inthe transverse ‘direction (denoted by'Q':ct. table #),near the product surface, A hook whose minimum impact energy complies with that given ‘in table 1 shall be deemed to be resistant to brittle fracture. Explanatory notes The revisions made to this standard have accounted for the withdrawal of DIN 17 135, and forthe specifications of Stanl-Eisen- Werkstoffoiet 089-70, which are incorporated into DIN 17 102 and DIN 17 103 Hooks which were manufactured in compliance with the March 1978 editions of DIN 16 404 Parts 1 and 2and which comply with the specifications ofthe previous edition of DIN 15.400 may still be used. Moreover, hooks that are already in service may continue to be used, provided they pass the in-service inspection described In DIN 18.405 Parts 1 and 2, Since the material o new hooks i to be SIE 285 or SESS steel, compliance with the requirements given in DIN 17 102 for rolled plate (for laminated hooks) and DIN 17 103 for weldable fine grain steel (or forged hooks) is now stipulated, This ensures that the ‘material properties of hooks are comparable to those of steels usad in the past ‘Table 2ists only those steels which are suitable forthe manufacture of forged or laminated hooks. Where cast hooks (e.9.28 spec itied in Stah-Eisen-Werkstofiblatt 515) are needed, these shall comply with the minimum requirements givenin table 1 and with the technical delivery conditions for Ifting appliances given in DIN 15428, and the in-service inspection shall be that described in DIN 15429. ‘The influence that the casting process, as compared to forging, has on the propertis of hooks shall be taken into account. For example, the DIN 3690 series of sandards states thatthe fatigue strength of cylindrical gears made from unalloyad cast stee! is bout 86% of that of gears made from ferged steel for quenching and tempering. n the Wehier fatigue test, Huck {1] compared 42.CMo4 and GS 42 CrMo¥ and found adiference in material fatigue strength of 10%. Scatter and average stress were aso less, favourable forcast steel, as a result of other factors. Buxbaum [2] found that the scatter related to stress was between 1,1 and 1,3 tnd that that for cast alloys was near the upper limit Cast Iiting hooks may be used, provided they comply withthe design principles given in the relevant literature {8} and [2], or that the strength of components has been verified in a Wohler fatigue test. ‘The unmachined components of point hooks specified in DIN 15401 Part 1, and those of ramshorn hooks in DIN 16 402 Part 2 are only to be used to manufacture forged hooks. The designations given in DIN 18401 Parts { and 2 and DIN 18402 Parts 1 and 2, a8, \well as the iting capacities assigned to hook numbers (cf. table 2) do not apply to cast hooks, even when ther dimensions comply with these standards. Cast hooks may be used, provided the permissible liting capacity is verified by the crane manufacturer in Which case reference to these standards may be dispensed with Only forged ttting hooks in compliance with DIN 15 401 Part 1 or DIN 18402 Part 1 or 2 shall be used on cranes such as are used in steel works and rolling mils ‘The folowing example of caloulation is intended to facilitate the comparison of the Impact energy of specimens in both the for- ‘merly used and current units. Note that the test results obtained for DVM specimens may not always be converted to ISO units, and that this conversion may only be made in tho case of hooks made o fine grain steel asin DIN 17 102and DIN 17 103 the DYM values in those standards were takan from Stani-Eisen-Werkstoffolat 089-70, which was withdrawn in December of 1983). ‘According to DIN 60 185, the standard specimen cross soction ist equal to 0,7 em? for @ DVM specimen, or to 08 em? for anISO-V specimen, Since the impact energy In Nm +981 - 07 or 68674. 5 oqat to N28" tan HO into case of DVM spacions is equa 0 tn the case of IS0-V specimens, S85" is equal to Nm - 981 08 or 7848, To convert DVM to ISO: valves, the following formula shal be applied: 1 dow = 22 Example: A, = 7 SO = 48Jpyy = S8dis0.y (@ach velue rounded to a whole number). Ramshorn hooks with threaded shank and nut In view of the need to lock the fifting hook nut and of the machining process of the knuckle thread, the ramshorn hook. and the lifting hook nut are not interchangeable. So, both must be ordered simultaneously. Consequently, the only ‘esignation examples given are those which relate to single hooks with threaded shank and associated nut. [A ring gauge is used to fix the location of the ramshorn hook in relation to the lifting hook nut, see figure 6. By this mean the common machining of the groove for the locking piece conforming to DIN 18 414 on the ramshorn hook and fon the lifting hook nut in accordance with DIN 15.413 is made possible, as is also the interchangeability of the ramshorn hook with nut. Scope and field of application “The specifications of this standard apply for rope pulleys (hereinafter briefly referred to as pulleys) with rolling bearing, without internal sleeve, for bottom blocks of eranes. “This standard specifies dimensions intended to ensure interchangeability of pulleys and the components of the rolling bearing. Thase pulleys may also be used instead of other pulleys in rope drives, e.g. upper pulleys, or in lifting means other than bottom blocks. “The use of these pulleys is dependent on the design of ths rope drive in accordance with DIN 15020 Part t and the loading and construction of the journal bearing. Type A pulleys, dealt with in DIN 15.422 Part 1, shall be used for production cranes, 2.9, steel works and rolling mill cranes.
