Q1 (10 points)
A 3000lb weight is being bushed up an inclined surface 45˚ from the horizon, the weight is to
accelerate from a zero velocity to a velocity of 2ft/s in 0.25 sec the coefficient of friction
between the weight and the inclined surface is equal to 0.1. For a pressure of 1000psi
determine the required piston diameter.
And what is the horse power of the pump for this system.

Q2 (10 points)
For the fluid power system shown bellow
The cylinder piston diameter = 10 in
Cylinder rod diameter = 5 in
External load on cylinder = 50,000 lb
Pump volumetric efficiency = 92%
Pump mechanical efficiency = 90 %
Extension speed of piston = 2 in/s
Pump speed = 1500 rpm
Pump inlet pressure = -4.0psi
The total drop of pressure from the pump to the blank end of the cylinder = 150 psi
Drop in return line from the rod end of the cylinder to the tank = 75 psi
Find the
a. Volumetric displacement of the pump
b. Input HP required to drive the pump
c. Input torque required to drive the pump
d. Retraction speed of the cylinder
