Job Description

The Audit Data Analytics Manager is responsible for the understanding and
evaluation of the internal control and risk environment within Assurant, Inc.
at the enterprise function or regional level and includes (but not limited to)
the following objectives:
• Manage and lead teams that mine data, interpret and communicate
analytical analysis of data to help audit teams understand the risk and
control environment of Assurant.
• Manage relationships with business leaders responsible for data
analytics to understand and influence improvements over
management’s control environment.
• Lead and participate in Internal Audit professional practice activities
to improve the department’s ability to fulfill its charter.

Responsibilities for the Audit Data Analytics Manager include


the following activities:

Manage and Lead Teams that Perform Complex Data Analytics (Up to
60%) The primary function of this role is to manage and lead teams that
identify risk, evaluate internal controls and report key findings for
assigned business areas through the use of data analytics, data mining,
and automation.
Specific tasks include but are not limited to the following:
• Lead Analytics based Control testing program for Internal Audit. •
Leading projects and teams focused towards using analytics approach
review and assess automated controls, and potentially automate their
testing. • Provide both advisory and execution support in audits by
identifying, developing, mining, interpreting, documenting and visually
communicating audit analytics during all relevant stages of an audit.
• Develop and execute an Internal Audit data analytics strategy aligned
with available data and risks within the organization.
• Design and execute standalone Data Analytics audit projects as
warranted in support of department objectives.
• Identify and obtain relevant data from data sources to support audit
teams. • Identify, develop, and maintain continuous auditing/monitoring
activities. • Support SOX / MAR / External Auditors and other members of
the department with data analytics requests as required.
• Develop and support data analytics solutions, libraries of scripts and other
aids and make them available for the department and actively train and
encourage the use of analytical procedures.
• Understand, recognize, and communicate key performance drivers,
business trends, and emerging financial, technical and industry
developments. • Follow up on recommendations that help Assurant’s
business leaders manage risk.
• Timely review and signoff audit reports and all supporting documentation;
verifying that it is sufficient, adequate and meets professional standards
to re perform conclusions reached.
• Follow professional standards and IAS methodologies, policies,
procedures, and best practices to ensure product quality.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff
through written reports and oral presentations.
• Actively pursue professional development opportunities related to
emerging data analytics trends, tools, techniques and share lessons
with colleagues to adopt within the department.

Develop Relationships with Assurant Business Leaders (20% to 40%)


Another key responsibility of the role is to develop the business
relationships with leaders over data analytics that enable IAS to fulfill its
charter and meet stakeholder expectations.
Specific tasks include (but not limited to) the following:
• Develop and maintain relationships with data analytic business leaders,
board members, stakeholders, and subject matter experts as assigned.
• Prepare data visuals for board, committee, and other stakeholder
meetings as requested.
• Maintain awareness of significant industry, regulatory and business
changes across assigned process and businesses and their potential
impact to the established control environment.
• Be a trusted, objective, and independent partner that is sought after to
provide cost-effective, independent assurance and advice on the
effectiveness of the company’s management of critical risks.

Manage & Lead Audit Teams (up to 20%)


This role may be required to lead and manage teams of direct reports
including interns, auditors and external contractors with specific
responsibilities including (but not limited to) the following:
• Lead projects to successful outcomes ensuring that all supporting
documentation is sufficient, adequate and meets professional standards
to re perform conclusions reached.
• Oversee team learning & development to ensure team has the skills
and expertise necessary to complete assigned projects and grow as
individuals.

Lead Professional Practice Activities (10% up to 50%)


The role may require the individual to lead professional practice
activities to support department development, ensure quality, and help
ensure that department processes, systems and methodologies
effectively and efficiently enable the department to meet its chartered
objectives. Specific tasks may include but are not limited to the
following:
• Create and implement technology solutions that support the Risk Based
Audit and SOX/MAR methodologies aligned to the IIA IPPF.
• Provide learning & development opportunities to raise department
knowledge and data analytic skills.
• Ensure data analytics is embedded into methodologies.
• Create, maintain, and automate a risk assessment process for
continuously monitoring organizational risks.
• Assist IAS Leaders in talent management activities aligned with the IIA
IPPF. • Create, maintain, and communicate internal department policies
and information using the department SharePoint sites.

Education
• Required: BS/BA degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or
university (Management Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics,
Business, Management, Accounting, Finance, or related field)

Knowledge and Skills


• Knowledge of SQL Query language applied in one or more database
platforms (SQL Server, Oracle, Postgres, etc.)
• Knowledge of Microsoft Automation and Reporting Services, including
Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, SSRS etc.
• Experience in building data analytics and automation solutions using
open-source languages such as Python, R etc.
• Preferably experienced in data privacy and database design • Ability to
analyze data, identify root causes and propose reasonable solutions that
manage risk
• Ability to write clearly and be focused on actionable and reasonable
results
• Ability to document work performed to enable external re
performance
• Ability to think critically through recognizing assumptions, evaluating
arguments and drawing conclusions
• Ability to maintain composure and deliver results while under
pressure managing multiple assignments and priorities
• Ability to learn quickly and apply abstract ideas to achieve

• Ability to use data analytical tools (Excel, etc.) to analyze data. • The
ability to formally assess risk, plan and execute tests of the control
environment and write reports of key findings following defined
methodologies

Previous Experience
• 6+ years of combined business experience that includes advanced
application of data analytics techniques and tools in a complex
business environment, including the application of general statistical
concepts against large volumes of data
• Experience leading small teams
• Experience in formal communications (written reports and oral) with all
levels of staff and management
• Experience in collecting and analyzing complex data, recognizing
assumptions, evaluating information and drawing logical conclusions
• Experience leading meetings and projects to successful outcomes
