The Audit Data Analytics Manager is responsible for the understanding and
evaluation of the internal control and risk environment within Assurant, Inc.
at the enterprise function or regional level and includes (but not limited to)
the following objectives:
• Manage and lead teams that mine data, interpret and communicate
analytical analysis of data to help audit teams understand the risk and
control environment of Assurant.
• Manage relationships with business leaders responsible for data
analytics to understand and influence improvements over
management’s control environment.
• Lead and participate in Internal Audit professional practice activities
to improve the department’s ability to fulfill its charter.
Manage and Lead Teams that Perform Complex Data Analytics (Up to
60%) The primary function of this role is to manage and lead teams that
identify risk, evaluate internal controls and report key findings for
assigned business areas through the use of data analytics, data mining,
and automation.
Specific tasks include but are not limited to the following:
• Lead Analytics based Control testing program for Internal Audit. •
Leading projects and teams focused towards using analytics approach
review and assess automated controls, and potentially automate their
testing. • Provide both advisory and execution support in audits by
identifying, developing, mining, interpreting, documenting and visually
communicating audit analytics during all relevant stages of an audit.
• Develop and execute an Internal Audit data analytics strategy aligned
with available data and risks within the organization.
• Design and execute standalone Data Analytics audit projects as
warranted in support of department objectives.
• Identify and obtain relevant data from data sources to support audit
teams. • Identify, develop, and maintain continuous auditing/monitoring
activities. • Support SOX / MAR / External Auditors and other members of
the department with data analytics requests as required.
• Develop and support data analytics solutions, libraries of scripts and other
aids and make them available for the department and actively train and
encourage the use of analytical procedures.
• Understand, recognize, and communicate key performance drivers,
business trends, and emerging financial, technical and industry
developments. • Follow up on recommendations that help Assurant’s
business leaders manage risk.
• Timely review and signoff audit reports and all supporting documentation;
verifying that it is sufficient, adequate and meets professional standards
to re perform conclusions reached.
• Follow professional standards and IAS methodologies, policies,
procedures, and best practices to ensure product quality.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff
through written reports and oral presentations.
• Actively pursue professional development opportunities related to
emerging data analytics trends, tools, techniques and share lessons
with colleagues to adopt within the department.
Education
• Required: BS/BA degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or
university (Management Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics,
Business, Management, Accounting, Finance, or related field)
Previous Experience
• 6+ years of combined business experience that includes advanced
application of data analytics techniques and tools in a complex
business environment, including the application of general statistical
concepts against large volumes of data
• Experience leading small teams
• Experience in formal communications (written reports and oral) with all
levels of staff and management
• Experience in collecting and analyzing complex data, recognizing
assumptions, evaluating information and drawing logical conclusions
• Experience leading meetings and projects to successful outcomes
