Synthesis of the Movie
“Knives Out” has all the elements of a typical murder mystery and a modern twist: the
story is told through the eyes of an immigrant nurse, Marta Cabrera, who plays by her own
rules. She tells the story in the way that makes the audience question America’s political state
and the way they live their lives.
Harlan Thrombey — the rich, white man who controlled most of the Thrombey wealth —
was found dead the morning after his 85th birthday party, which was attended by his two
children as well as several other members of the family. Private detective Benoit Blanc believed
Harlan was murdered, in spite of local law enforcements’ assurances that he killed himself.
It is revealed early on that Marta, Harlan’s nurse, accidentally switched his two
medications after their nightly game of Go, administering a fatal dose of morphine. After Harlan
discovered he had only minutes left to live, he persuaded Marta to leave and suggested she
only give the police pieces of the truth, as she involuntarily vomited whenever she lied. Given
that Marta’s mother was an undocumented immigrant, Harlan and Marta worked together to
frame Harlan’s death as a suicide to protect Marta and her family.
Everything seemed to be going according to plan. But, the reading of Harlan’s will
revealed that none of the Thrombeys would receive any of the inheritance; instead, Harlan’s
wealth and assets would be given to Marta. The Thrombeys became incredibly suspicious of
Marta and attempted to convince her to give up the estate she had inherited.
By the end of the film, Blanc discovered that Ransom, one of Harlan’s grandsons,
switched the medicines before Marta administered them. Ransom knew that Marta was the
sole beneficiary of Harlan’s riches, and he wanted to hold her accountable for Harlan’s death in
order to contest the will. To cover his tracks, Ransom killed Fran, the housekeeper, then was
arrested after giving a confession

Questions
1. What is the movie all about?
It's all about the death of Harlan Thrombey, the father of the Thrombey family. The
two detectives on the scene pronounce his death a suicide, but a private detective
named Benoit Blanc, hired by an unknown source, arrives to look into any foul play or
interest for murder.
2. What is your emotional response to this movie?
Knives Out is a mystery murder crime film in which we have a lot of fun with this Clue
like concept as Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) tries to solve a murder. This kind
of film reminds us of Murder at the Orient Express. But a little more fun and
entertaining. Rian Johnson's direction and his witty script makes this movie worth
watching. It is fun, there are surprises, and twists and turns.
3. What is the message of this movie? Do you agree or disagree with it?
We agree that Knives Out takes aim at the concept of wealthy white individuals
believing they are "self-made" but depending on inherited riches and family ties for their
success.
4. Did you learn anything from this movie? If you did, what was it?
Marta's story is a arise call. It encourages us to spread as much kindness as possible in
the world, rather than comparing ourselves to others and attempting to defeat those
who oppose us. It inspires us to live a lovely life.
5. If you are given a chance to change the ending of the movie, how will you end
this?
If we have the chance to change the ending we will add another plot twist and it will be
that Mr. Harlan Thrombey is alive and he pretended that he died slitting his own throat.
His body was duplicated to conceal that he is alive. It will add more roller coaster twist
to this movie because it will revealed that Mr. Harlan Thrombey was watching all the
time until the arrest of Ransom.

Reflection
Knives Out is a fun, wacky plot. Even if you've previously predicted who hasn't done it,
determining who has will be difficult. The film's joys come from the way these well-defined
characters square up against one another even when they pretend to be on the same side.
Knives Out is loaded with deception, greed, blackmail, and general unpleasantness—and it's
amusing. When one of the characters first meets Mr. Blanc, he exclaims, "I read a Tweet about
a New Yorker article about you!""There's more wit here than in most of Johnson's films."
Knives Out is a lot of fun, but there's a lot going on behind the surface. One of its core
tenets is that immigrants, individuals who have chosen to live in America and have had to
make sacrifices to do so, are frequently better Americans than people born here. Knives Out is
totally plain about one thing, despite its smart, delicious trickery: it respects science and
individuals who know what they're doing. This is a film in which knowledge and common sense
triumph; no one is rewarded for foolishness or brutality. In that way, Knives Out is more than
simply a visually appealing distraction. It's also a glimpse of the future.
