I am thirteen years old and I need some advice. I want to eat nutritiously and be in shape, but I have a hard
time giving up things I love – like pizza and chocolate. What can I do to avoid bad foods?

It’s terrific that you want to eat well. Eating properly is the best thing to do if you want to feel good and keep
fit. Being a teenager today usually means having a busy schedules complete with schoolwork, extracurricular
activities, socializing and just having fun. Sometimes this means eating in a hurry – or in the cafeteria or at
the mall – and you don’t have a lot of time or a lot of choices. Other times, you just feel like having a cookie
or two or some chocolate. The key is learning what’s healthy and what’s not.
Exercise also makes a huge difference because it burns calories.
Remember that diets and pills are not healthy. Nothing works magically or overnight. There’s no reason you
can’t have a slice of pizza or cake every now and then. Eating well-balanced mini-meals throughout the day
can help you to control your weight.
