It’s now lunch break at school, but the students are working. Some students are playing the guitar together and
writing songs. Another student is practising some dance exercises. And in the library, some friends are doing
homework and talking about their dreams and plans for the future. And there are more students working hard.
The Brit School is a special arts school for 14-19 year olds who want to work in music, theatre, dance or design. The
school is state-funded: the students don’t pay any money to go to the school. The students have an obligation to
study very hard. ‘People think we have lots of fun here and sing and dance all day’ says Tania, a 15-year-old
student, ‘but there are also a lot of subjects: IT, French, English, Science, History, and much more!’
The Brit School opened in 1991 and it now has some very famous old students: Adele, Katie Melua, The Krooks
and Athlete all went to The Brit School.
