Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

This chapter presents the project context, conceptual framework, objectives of the study, scope

and limitations of the study, purpose and description, and definition of terms.

Project Context

The population are increasing, so the infrastructure is also increasing, so we need construction

workers to build up our homes and needs. Construction work is in demand in our society because

it helps ease our problems with houses, buildings etc. In recent years, most industries have

suffered greatly due to the corona-virus pandemic, but construction has rarely ceased. More and

more construction projects have been started across this time, increasing the demand for worker.

Our country is prone to natural disaster its because we are located in the Pacific typhoon belt, the

Philippines experiences many forms of natural disasters. Alongside typhoons, earthquakes,

floods, volcanic eruptions and landslides are common, causing much suffering and millions of

dollars of damage and this causes damage to homes and infrastructures, so after disasters,

construction workers are really in demand because they are the ones who repairs the damage.

Finding a construction worker is not easy because it causes a waste of time and energy and it must

be acted upon and it must be improved and made into a website to facilitate the search because

currently internet is the foundation of our daily living today's era, its makes our life easier

everyone can benefit it and also it helps the worker to find a job, the society and economy will

have much easier to find people or workers to.

Due to the problems mentioned above, the researchers came up with an idea to use technology to

provide solution to the problem of clients and construction worker. The researchers developed the

Construction Worker System, an online platform that enables clients to find easier construction

worker to help there problems and also it helps construction worker to find a job easier. The

system provides the full information about who registered in the system both clients and workers
for safeness, User also needs a valid I.D so that he/she can registered in the system and also it

provides a different job shows when you login in the website so that its much more easier you just

click the workers job what you want. Also it has chat box so that you can communicate each

other. Next is you can rate star after their performance so that other clients should be aware of

them.

Conceptual Framework

The study entitled “Construction Worker System: An Online Platform”, is anchored on the Input-

Process-Output (IPO) Model. According to Canonizado (2021), the IPO model represents the

summary of several related articles that explains the processes involved. It refers to the

representation of all the factors that compose a process. The IPO diagram includes all of the

materials and the information that are required in the process, the specific details of the process

itself, and the descriptions of all outputs anchored on the process that took place. IPO model

refers to the depiction of all the factors that form a process.

In computing researches, the IPO is usually presented in two (2) ways. In the fist way of

presenting the IPO, the input consists the information required for the system to be developed,

usually, all the details specified in the objectives of the study are stipulated here; the process

involves the system itself; and, the output reflects all the reports that are generated by the system.

The second way of presenting the IPO is more technical. The input consists of the user

requirements, knowledge requirements, hardware requirements, software requirements, and

developing tools; the process involves the requirements planning, prototyping, design and

development, and testing and evaluation; and, the output is the system itself.

Figure 1 shows the Conceptual Framework of the study. Reflected as inputs are the user

requirements, knowledge requirements, software requirements, hardware requirements,

and development tools. The user requirements are the identified scope of the system

which is based on the user specifications. The Constuction Worker System website is

capable of providing a user portal for all users to securely log in; hence, the Account

Module. It provides a dashboard to see the data about your transactions, conversations,

generated revenue, best sellers, and average order value; hence, the Dashboard Module.

The user can buy and sell root crops using the system; hence, the Marketing and Selling

Module. It also allows the user to browse and purchase root crops; hence, the Browsing

and Purchasing Module. The system allows the tracking of products; hence, the Order

Processing and Tracking Module. It helps the users to move from page to page in order to

create a seamless shopping experience; hence, the Search and Navigation Module. It

enables the monitoring of daily, monthly, and yearly sales; hence, the Sales Monitoring

Module. It keeps track of the inventory; hence, the Inventory Module. It provides a chat

box for the seller and buyer to communicate; hence, the Communication Module. It

allows the user to rate and give a review to a specific seller about the quality of the

product and services; hence, the Rating and Review Module.

The researchers are required to have a knowledge about system analysis, system

design, programming, debugging, and system evaluation. They must be knowledgeable in

identifying problems and organizing the facts and details of the system. They should be

able to meticulously breakdown the system into its organized components or parts. It is

important that the researchers know what works with what, what causes something to

work or fail, and what can work independently. Through system analysis, the researchers

will know the ins and outs of the system. Aside from knowing how to analyze the system,

the researchers should be knowledgeable in system design. They should be able to define

the product and its architecture. It is necessary for the interfaces, design, data, and

modules to satisfy the system requirements. Thus, a good system design strategy is key

for enabling optimal product development. The researchers, especially the hacker in the

team must be knowledgeable in programming concepts as the study involves software

development. They need to know also how to debug to locate and remove existing and

potential errors in their software code. This is done to prevent incorrect functions of
5

systems that can lead to unexpected crashes. They must test programs in a code to search

for new bugs, so they can be corrected. After the system is developed, the researchers

must know how to evaluate it to determine what works well and what could be improved

in the system. They have to make sure that the system conforms to the software quality

standards.

For the Construction Worker System application, it is important also to know the

software and hardware requirements for the system to run smoothly and avoid lags during

execution. The hardware specifications include the processor speed to be 2.5 GHz, 2 GB

RAM, and 128 GB HDD free space for the storage,. The software specifically the

operating system must be Windows 10 or higher versions and the browsers where the

system could be displayed are Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge..

The researchers need to determine also the development tools that are necessary for the

development of the system. The researchers used. The researchers need to determine also

the development tools that are necessary for the development of the system. The

researchers used Visual Studio Code for the coding, Adobe Dreamweaver CC20 for the

design of user interfaces, Adobe Photoshop for the design of banners and icons, Xampp

for the database, and JustinMind for the prototyping.

The process involves requirements planning, prototyping, design and

development, and testing and evaluation. In the requirements planning, the researchers

and users plan and agree on the project’s needs, scope, challenges, and requirements.

Then the users work with the researchers to create and develop one or more prototypes

that cover the outlined system requirements. This is a continuous phase wherein the users

interact with the prototype and provide feedback until a true final product is approved.

Then the researchers then focus on implementing the feedback provided by the users

through coding, testing, and any other applicable development tasks. Series of testing and

evaluation is done afterwards. The system is evaluated against requirements gathered

from users and system specifications. Testing is conducted, which comprises of

Validation and Verification, to examine whether or not the software satisfies the user

requirements (validation) and confirm if the software is meeting the business

requirements, and is developed adhering to the proper specifications and methodologies

(validation). After considering the inputs required and undertaking all the necessary
6

processes, the Construction Worker System website, which is an online marketplace for

agricultural crops, is the end result.

Objectives of the Study

General Objective

The main objective of the study is to design and develop an online

marketplace for agricultural crops called Construction Worker System.

Specific Objectives

Specifically, it aims to:

1. Design and develop an application called Construction Worker

System which is capable of:

a. providing a user portal for all users to securely log in;

b. providing different kinds of work related in construction to

choose;

c. client-to-worker communication;

d. ratings and review mechanism;

2. Evaluate the level of conformity of the Construction Worker System

application with the ISO 25010 software quality standards.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

Scope

The local people who offer freelance construction services, local residents, and

entrepreneurs who are in need of this service will be the beneficiaries of the said system

since the researchers designed it to make their lives easier by bringing accessibility to

people through their technology, particularly smartphones that are already a part of their

"everyday lives." Local construction workers may present their valid ID to the system

and can specialize in details. Viewers or employers may pin point and choose their own
7

preferences for who they need to make their homes, physical stores, and infrastructure.

Construction Worker System is supported by Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.

Limitations

The Construction Worker System does not offer a wide range of accessibility

since it cannot cater to crowd system traffic yet. The only available location for this

system is within the Minglanilla, Cebu, Philippines. Once an employer has reserved a

service for already two days, it cannot be changed. When a person clicks the button to

submit, the system will automatically inform the worker through email or SMS.

Employers will be given a 24-hour deadline to pay the reservation fee or cancel. Failure

to do either of these may result in sanctions or an account being banned.

Purpose and Description of the Study

Construction Worker System will give the following significance particularly to

the following:

1. Professional Academy of the Philippines as a whole. The publishing of the

study's abstract and presentations of the findings at regional, national,

international, and local conferences may be beneficial to the institution since they

will raise awareness of the university among academic circles. The institution

may be recognized and develop a good reputation for providing students with

high-quality education as a result of the researcher's presentation.

2. Local Freelance Construction Workers within Minglanilla. This system was

primarily created for the majority of construction employees who are

undergraduate students and also the skilled freelance construction workers since

they have these abilities. This approach will provide them with a variety of career

options that are sufficient to cover their living expenditures and needs.

3. Stakeholders who wished to build within Minglanilla. Individuals who are

thinking about starting a business don't need to be concerned about finding

employees for their physical businesses. This system will provide them a wide

range of options and information about people who specialize in their demands so

they may establish the institution they wish.

8

4. Library. The study will serve as an additional reference that can be kept and

added in the collection of the library.

5. Civil Engineers and Contractors. These professional and skilled individuals'

lives will be easier because this system will help them find local and skilled

construction workers who they can rely on to perform and complete a certain

project such as housing, building, warehouse, and infrastructures.

6. Municipality of Minglanilla. The system benefits the municipality since it will

boost its economic development and support the neighborhood by generating job

opportunities.

7. Future Researchers. They may use this study as a reference to help them

develop the system. When they carry out a comparative project, it could provide

further information.

Definition of Terms

For the purpose of this study, the following technical terms were used

and defined operationally to serve as reference for the readers.

Dashboard This is usually the page where users first

see the web application. This is the page
that displays the application’s data
analysis or generation information. From
the dashboard, the user can drill down to
get more information about a particular
piece of data.
Database Used to store manage and update
records or files containing information.
This data is typically accessed through a
database management system. This
system consists of embedded computer
software that allows a user to intercat
with one or more databases. A website
where you can find a variety of jobs you
need related to construction work.
9

E-Learning It can be divided into two groups:

synchronous and asynchronous. An
electronic learning system is an
integrated online program that gives
teachers, administrators, trainers, and
students a common set of interactive
features to help manage, deliver
information and receive learning content.
Synchronous e-learning, more commonly
known as online learning, is led by the
instructor and taken ners - all happening
at the same time as other learning events
to be geographically dispersed. Its e-
learning system is extremely compatible
with the learning and training strategies
of many work industries because of its
accessibility and adaptability.

E-Learing Platform Encourage and inspire employees to learn

and develop through peer
accomplishments, achieve milestones,
and share expertise with the flexibility of
learning from anywhere, anytime, and
from any devise while still having access
to subject matter experts. A learning
experience platform like Skill Lake
provides an employee-centric learning
experience by curating and suggesting
content relevant to each employee based
10

on their Job role, skills, and learning

history. With technologies like
gamification learner dashboards,
feedback tools, and course coaching, it
gives each employee control over their
own learning path.
Learning Management system The administration documentation
monitoring reporting automation and
delivery of educational courses, training
sessions, or learning programs are all
handled by a learning management
system, which is piece of software.
Software Software is a set of instructions or a
program that tells a computer how to
perform specific tasks, in the broadest
sense. On PCs, smartphones, tablets, and
other smart devices, it describes
computer programs that operate on
those gadgets. It is frequently used to
refer to all of the functional facets of a
computer that don’t deal with its physical
components. Software is frequently
referred to as scripts, programs, apps, or
a collection of instructions. Software is
any program that runs on a computer
including the operating system,
diagnostic software, video games, and
applications.

System It contains architecture, modules, and

components, as well as the many ways
those components communicate with
one another and the data that passes
through them to meet predetermined
requirements. It must have a structure
and behavior that are intended to
accomplish a certain goal. The system's
component parts must be
interdependent and interconnected. It
11

has a primary goal, organization,

interaction, dependency, and integration.
Processor, control, feedback,
environment, boundaries, and interface
are among the components.
system components.

System Architecture It is the way that systems are structurally

designed. The views, structure, and
behavior of the system are theoretically
defined by the model. The technical
architecture, end-user specifications, and
a list of system components could all be
included in the model. It is representation
and explanation of how the system
functions and, more generally, interacts
with other system components. The
characteristics of the new system, the
system requirements, and the system
architecture process are the major
decisions that need to be made. You
supplied the system’s architecture,
software, technology, and deployment
strategy.
User Interface The user interface. That is the portion of
the product you can see and use.
Incorporates disciplines that give the
interface life, including as visual design,
interaction design, and others. Because
users of construction technology come in
a wide range of ages, background levels
of construction expertise, and
technological prowess, it is essential that
user interfaces cater to these differences.
In order to be usable by everyone, the
Interface must be friendly. Construction
is an industry made up of builders who
frequently want to hold and control the
thing they are creating, thus it is
12

interesting. Because paper is widely

available, this industry can function.
These people will be converted to digital
when.
Visual Classrooms A visual aid provides additional visual
information in addition to words, such as
images, charts, videos, graphs, or other
visual materials. They are crucial because
they promote audience engagement, aid
in comprehension and memory, and
serve as notes or reminders for the
speaker. To increase the value of work
done by employees and to make
workplaces safer. Participants in the
Gemba walks for Construction course will
develop understanding of the what, why,
and how to successfully utilize this
strategy to support their projects, is
crucial to creating a culutre of continual
improvement on your projects.
