LK Assignment 1.

Topic: Principles of Management

March 25- April 2

Management is essential to any organization that wishes to be efficient and achieve its aims. Without
someone in a position of authority there would be organizational anarchy with no structure and very
little, if any focus. It has been said that management has four basic functions – planning, organizing,
leading and controlling. Common sense dictates that without these principles of management being in
place an organization would have trouble achieving its aims, or even coming up with aims in the first
place! A classic theory on the principles of management was written by Henri Fayol.

At this time we ask you to summarize this information and creatively find a way to graphically
present a synthesis of the topic.

To do this we invite you through a MIND MAP to explain "on your own words" the principles of
management and their application WITH REAL EXAMPLES, when you have it, please paste it in the
next page.

HOW TO DO A MIND MAP?

1. Create a Central Idea

The central idea is the starting point of your Mind Map and represents the topic you are going
to explore.
2. Add branches to your map
The next step to get your creative juices flowing is to add branches. The main branches which
flow from the central image are the key themes. You can explore each of the themes in
greater depth by adding child branches.
3. Add keywords
When you add a branch to your Mind Map, you will need to include a key idea. Try to keep
this idea as brief as possible; this will allow you to spark off a greater number of associations,
compared to longer more complex phrases.
4. Color code your branches
Mind Mapping encourages whole brain thinking as it brings together a wide range of cortical
skills from logical and numerical, to creative and special.
The overlap of such skills makes your brain more synergetic and maintains its optimal
working level. Keeping these cortical skills isolated from one another does not help brain
denclude visual signifiers (e.g. images)
5. Don’t forget to add images and other visual elements to your Mind Map as images have
the power to convey much more information than a word, sentence or even an essay.
