Quidway SessionEngine2200 Session Border Controller Chapter 1 Product Overview
The SE2200 is developed to serve as a Session Border Controller (SB C) at the edge
of current IP net works. It enables IP networks to bear NGN services, such as video
conference. The SE2200 is generally deployed at the egress of CPNs or enterprise
networks or on the convergence layer of Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs). It
solves such problems as NAT, NAT traversal, QoS and security defense for private
network subscribers. The SE2200 can also act as a border gateway between MANs
or Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to implement interworking between different
address domains and solve such problems as security, QoS and network hiding.
The SE2200 adopts special high-performance processors. Its high reliability and
modular hardware design eases scalability. The software of the SE2200 inherits the
Versatile Routing Platform (VRP ) of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and is divided
into a managing system, a supporting system, a forwarding system and a processing
system. The SE2200 has the reliable and stable feat ures of Distribute Object-oriented
Programmable Real-time Architecture (DOP RA). This separates the upper services
from the lower layer operating systems and offers fine compatibility.
In addition to the protocol proxy, for example, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP ), Media
Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP), H.323 and H.248, the SE2200 provides the NGN
with such functions as dynamic firewall, NAT and L2& L3 QoS re-mark.
The SE2200 consists of an integrat ed chassis, two power modules, a fan board and
some other service boards. These boards are horizontally placed in the chassis. The
3U-high standard chassis can be fixed in a 19” standard rack. The chassis is 436.2
mm in width, 420 mm in depth and 130.5 mm in height.

3) Slot 2 for Interface Module 4) ESD-preventive wrist strap jack
There are three slots on the front panel, slot 0 for RPU, and slots 1 and 2 for interface
modules.
Two PWRs, working in the 1+1 backup mode, are horizontally installed in the rear
panel providing DC-input or AC-input power supply as required. The fan board is
located at the left rear. Both PWRs and fan board are hot swappable. At the lower left
of the rear panel is an ESD-preventive wrist strap jack and at the top right is a PGND
screw.

Note:
Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM) is also known as the
memory that stores the communication data between the system and the CP U.
Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) stores the system configuration files
and running status information records.
Flash memory functions as the major file storage medium to store operating system
and application program files.
BootROM is to boot the read-only memory and stores the boot program file.
100 V to 240 V is a standard fluctuating range of AC-input power supply, but the
actual fluctuating range is 90 V to 264 V.
–48 V to –60 V is a standard fluctuating range of DC-input power supply, but the
actual fluctuating range is –36 V to –72 V.
General modules of the SE2200 include RP U, PWR, FAN, and interface modules.

1.4.2 PWR
I. Functions
The power supply system of the SE2200 comprises two PWRs. In normal situations,
the two PWRs (either supplying DC or AC power) function in a redundant way. The
input int erruption or failure of a PWR will not affect the operation of another PWR, and
this operating PWR will provide all the power required by the system.
The SE2200 provides two types of PWRs, AC PWR and DC PWR. The A C PWR uses
PSR350-A. The output power of each A C PWR is 350 W and the two-way outputs are
combined on the backplane. The DC PWR uses PSR350-D. The out put power of
each DC PWR is also 350 W and the two-way outputs are also combined on the
backplane. Power cables use D-type 3P IN -48 V feeder cables. In addition, the two
PWRs provide the overcurrent protection and overvoltage protection.
Note:
If you want to install an SE2200 in a communication equipment room, you should
make sure that the power distribution cabinet can provide the lightning protection box
or arrester against the current of 20 kA and above.

Indicator Description
1.4.3 FAN
I. Functions
The SE2200 is configured wit h six fans that are separated into three groups , as
shown in Figure 1-4. When all these fans are working normally, the operating
o o
temperature of the system can be maintained in the range of 0 C to 45 C. When a fan
fails, the other fans can still ensure the system operating in the normal t emperature.
The rotating speed of the fans is controlled by the RPU and is in the range of 50% to
100%. The FA N controller uses two parameters, low-temperature threshold and
high-temperature threshold to control the rotatin g speed of the fans. The former
corresponds to the 100% rotating speed and the latter corresponds to the 50%
rotating speed. The system will send out the rotation stop alarm signal in case that
any fan fails. The alarm and state indicators of FAN are located on the RPU front
panel.
