This study was conducted in a Gurgaon based organisation called Reculta Solutions Private Limted over a period of two months. The company has operations running in multiple cities, the respondents for this study were limited to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. All the data collected is primary in nature. All the employees were part-time workers because of the nature of the project. They were asked about their opinion on various aspects like nature of work, their experience with the company and their opinion about part-time work opportunities in general. The information was collected with the help of a questionnaire (Appendix). It was found out that there are six variables that affect the dependent variable which is the efficiency of the employee. The variable that affect the efficiency of the employee are: Number of days worked every week Number of tasks completed per week Time spent with the company Training Multiple Projects Communication oe eNe Since the dependent variable is categorical in nature and the independent variables were a mix of categorical variables and continuous variable | chose to use Classification Tree for my analysis. It is a predictive tool available to use on Microsoft Excel. From the analysis it was found that the most important variable in understanding whether the employee will be able to reach his or her target; which is the only way to know the efficiency, is by knowing the number of days in a week that an employee works for. The other variable that were found out to be extremely important were the average number of tasks completed by the employee in a week and for how long the employee has been working for the company. The best pruned tree showed that if the employee worked more than 4.5 days ina week he or she will be able to reach the target, and prove to be the most efficient that they can be. It is recommended to the company that spending more number of days on the field should be acknowledge, this can be done by giving some incentives to the employees who are consistently working more number of days of the week. This will motivate others to work more number of days as well. It is also recommended that the company retains the employees for as long as possible, either by including a contract in their employment clause or by monetary incentives LITERATURE REVIEW Following are the papers that have been written on the efficiency of employees or on similar topics that guided me through my research work: 4. It helps in connecting the various campuses around the country with some of the best companies in the market, Their goal is to make the campus recruitment process easier for both the college and the company. They do so by building a software that eases up the process. This software has various features like keeping student record, the feature for the student to update their profile, the company has the benefit of accessing the information on students anytime and anywhere, Regular updates can also be sent by the company to the students. This software can be prove to be very useful in these trying times of COVID-19, when the recruiters are unable to visit the campus and the know the students first hand. Reculta Solutions Private Limited has another vertical called Pick My Work. This vertical is also based fon a software but also adds to the gig industry of the country. Gig economy is the economy where the companies provide jobs on the basis of a project. The employees are free to move on to a better ‘opportunity once their current project is completed. This does not bind the employee to one company and he or she has the opportunity to grow and experience various sectors and different types of work that he or she would not have been able to if he or she would have a permanent and ‘monotonous job. One drawback of this industry is the irregularity of the payment, itis possible that the gig workers are paid a little less than the permanent employees and also if the company has not undertaken any project then the source of income for the gig employee dies, The gig industry is, blooming in india but has not reached the full potential yet. The population of the country is ever increasing and the opportunity for a stable job is decreasing, Gig economy is like an opportunity for so many people. There is no limit to the type of skills that are required. There will always be requirement for some skill and an opportunity for the same. The potential for this economy to grow and flourish is enormous and India has started to realise that. Pick My Work is operational in 16 cities around the country and they are still expanding their market. These 16 cities are a mix of tier 1 and tier 2 cities of the country. The company is outsourced different projects by companies like Google and Khatabook. These projects are usually related to merchant on-boarding and KYC verification, these are very tedious activities but at the same time. very important. Bigger companies usually outsource these activities because it gets difficult to manage another set of work force or set up another team to complete this work. Since Pick My Work. is present and active in so many citles, it is convenient for the companies to outsource the work to Pick My Work. Once the project |s outsourced and handed over to Pick My Work, it becomes their duty to get the work done. The work force is recruited by them, the merchants who need to get their verification done need to be spotted by Pick My Work workforce. The queries or any grievances are handled by Pick My Work. They are the sole responsible for anything happening to the outsourced activities. Pick My Work has an application that helps the gig workers keep a track of the tasks completed by them and for the city managers to keep a check that all the tasks are true and verified, For smoother operations in each city Pick My Work hires City Operation Mangers. These managers are responsible for every activity happening in the city and need to report about the daily progress to the higher management. Pick My Work is like a well knit family that works and builds a better ‘economy together with the help of big companies, gig workers, city managers for operations, city manager for HR, the team that builds their software for keeping a track of the gig worker and the higher management who bags these projects. ‘SWOT ANALYSIS: 1. Strength: The strength of Pick My Work is their revenue model and the fact that the industry is still growing. They are present in various cities and a mix of the type of cities, which makes their reach more reliable and attractive to the bigger companies. 2. Weakness: The gig workers are employed only tll the time the company has the authority to run the project. Once the project is over the employees may not have a source of income which makes this industry very shaky and not attractive. 3. Opportunity: The global pandemic proved to be an opportunity because a lot of people lost their jobs and they were looking for any opportunity that they could get their hand on even if it was part-time. 4. Threats: Pick My Work has a threat from the companies who employ full-time employees, because they provide security and stability to the employees especially when compared to Part time work. There is also a chance that bigger companies may start their own verticals based on this model. 10 SE tine vow yw VY wu © OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY To find factors that affects the efficiency of the employees: There were many factors that were taken into consideration which could have had an impact on the efficiency of the employees. Efficiency of the employees is calculated by their ability to reach the targets allotted to them. . Impact of virtual training on the employees: Due to the lockdown there was no ‘one from the company to provide training to the sales force. The employees were trained virtually with the help of videos and handbooks. Impact of having virtual teams on employees: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the teams were connected only virtually. It is important to understand what the ‘employees felt about this transition of working virtually only. ut wv yyyuUU yUUU UE vee ee Ce ee eee wen SCOPE OF THE STUDY The scope of this study is limited to evaluating the employees working for the Pick My Work vertical of Reculta Solutions Private Limited. Efficiency of all the employees will not be evaluated: only the employees who work as a salesperson for the company will be taken into consideration. The study is done for a period of two months from May 2020 to July 2020 and restricted to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack region of the country. 2 sane PROBABLE OUTCOME OF THE STUDY The probable outcome of this study is that we will be able to find factors that have an effect on the efficiency of the employees. Since | am using Classification Tree which is a predictive tool, we will be able to find the characters that affect the efficiency of the employee the most and use the outcome for the benefit of the company. This study will also help us understand about how the employee feels about the gig ‘economy and the gig industry as a whole. We might also get an insight on whether the employees are working part-time because they lost their job due to the COVID-19 pandemic or if they actually want to benefit from this fast-moving and fast-growing industry. wy vVvvuvvvyvvyy BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE CONCEPTS/MODELS INTRODUCED IN THE STUDY The model used in this study was CART- Classification and Regression Tree model. Decision tree learning is one of the predictive modelling approaches used in statistics, data mining and machine leaming. It uses a decision tree to go from observations about an item to conclusions about the item's target value. A Classification And Regression Tree (CART), is a predictive model, which explains how an outcome variable's values can be predicted based on other values. A CART output is a decision tree where each fork is a split in a predictor variable and each end node contains a prediction for the outcome variable. CART model which helps to find a variable based on other labeled variables. To be more clear the tree models predict the outcome by asking a set of if-else questions. There are two major advantages in using tree models, 4. They are able to capture the non-linearity in the dataset. 2. No need for Standardization of data when using tree models. Because they don't calculate any distance or other measuring factors between data. Just if-else. Based on that question each instance of input will be directed or routed to a specific leaf- node which will tell the final prediction. There are three types of nodes, 4. Root Node: doesn't have any parent node, and gives two children nodes based on the question 2. Internal Node: it will have a parent node, and gives two children nodes. 3. Leaf Node: it will also have a parent node, but won't have any children nodes Another interesting factor about Node is Information gain (IR). This is a criterion used to measure the purity of a Node. Purity is measured based on how clever a node can split items. Let's say you are at a Node and you want to go either left or right. But you have items belongs to both classes at the same amount (50-50) at each node. Then the purity of both classes is low because you don't know which direction to choose. One has to be higher than the other to make a decision. this Is measured using IR. As the name itself says, the goal of CART model is to predict to which class an input instance belongs to based on its labelled values. To accomplish this it will make Decision Regions using Decision Boundaries. 4 Classification Tree analysis was done on XLMiner, which is feature available on Microsoft Excel. Classification tree was used in this study because all the variables (dependent and independent) are categorical in nature. Categorical variables can be defined as the variables that divide the data into groups. Other than CART, descriptive analysis was also used to define the findings for certain problems identified and objectives of the study. Descriptive analysis can be defined as the tool that helps in understanding the distribution of the data, identify the outliers and eliminate them for 2 more accurate result. A descriptive statistic is a summary statistic that quantitatively describes or summarizes features from a collection of information, while Gescriptive statistics is the process of using and analysing those statistics. 7 BRIEF ABOUT THE INDUSTRY AND/OR ORGANISATION WHERE THE STUDY WAS CARRIED OUT Reculta Solutions Private Limited is a company that comes under the tech industry as well as the gig industry. Tech industry or the technological sector includes all those activities and companies that manufacture electronics, software, computer or product and services that are relating to information technology. Technology is an addition of techniques, skills, methods, and processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation. Gig industry is the industry where the companies look for employees who want to work on fone project and then move to another company for a different project. These companies usually take up projects that require work to be done for a certain time period. These projects usually vary from one another and they require personnel that suit the requirements of that project. The changing nature of projects is the reason that the majority of the human resources in these companies are not permanent. The core team works on daily basis but majority of the work force is only on a project-base. The pay out to the gig workers is also in a similar fashion, they come under a contract with the company and are supposed to wrok for the duration of the contract and will be paid accordingly. Freelancers are a type of gig worker, they work on a project and then shift to a different project. Reculta Solutions Private Limited was founded by 3 entrepreneurs who are the alumni of IIM ‘Ahmedabad and FMS Delhi. They started their functions in the year 2017 and are fairly new to the market. a start-up that helps connect recruiters and campuses for a hassle-free ‘campus recruitment process. The company designs and develops analytics platform that brings institutions and recruiters together to help them conduct hassle-free campus recruitment. Reculta Solutions serves customers in India. Reculta Solutions Private Limited has vertical called Pick My Work, which is based on the gig industry model. Pick My Work is operational in 16 cities around the country and provides part-time employment to more than 800 employees in these cities. Companies like Google and Khatabook outsource their work like merchant on-boarding and KYC verification to Pick ‘My Work. The company hires part-time workers who are willing to work and earn money; the workers are allowed to work on their own time and are not pressurised for anything. This concept helps them to work for themselves and let them be their own boss. This way the worker stays happy, salisfied and motivated. There are chances the Pick My Work has more than one project outsourced to them at a single point of time. The workers are alowed to work for all the available projects. Each city has a city operation manager; if the city is big there will be a city operation manager and an HR manger, sometimes one city manager is given the responsibility of multiple cities depending on the size of the city and load of the 16 work in that city. The city operation manager is responsible for all the activities related to all the projects that are active in the city. The responsibilities include the following activities: 0. Part-time employees tend to switch between projects more frequently than usual, so Pick My Work should try to retain the employee for as long as possible. Incentives should be given to employees after completing certain number of tasks. Employees should be trained under a professional, apart from getting the virtual training. LIMITATION 1) Sample size was very small. 2) Respondents were limited to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack region. 3) Due to the lockdown restrictions full potential of the employees was not recorded. 4) Some answers might be biased as the respondents worked with me.
