He Has Risen - A Collection of Easter Prayers and Devotions
He Has Risen - A Collection of Easter Prayers and Devotions
Heavenly Father and God of Mercy, I believe that Jesus is alive and has
become the Lord of Life. From the waters of Baptism you have raised me
with him and renewed your gift of life within me. Increase in my mind and
heart the risen life I share with Christ and help me to grow in your wisdom
and grace.
Lord Jesus, you appeared to your apostles after the resurrection and filled
their heart with joy when you said to them, "Peace be with you". May the
peace of your presence abide with me and make each day you give the most
beautiful day of my life.
Lord Jesus, you triumphed over death and destroyed the power of death in
me, may I live only for you. Risen Lord, you brought confusion on the guards
at your tomb but joy as I serve you in spirit and truth. You promised to be
with your disciples, Lord,, to the ends of the world, stay with me today and
remain with me always.
King of Glory, Center of my life, grant that when you come again. I may be
one with you in glory. Lord, remember me as in my own way I minister to
your people, may my life be holy and an example to your people.
Lord Jesus, purify my heart with your truth and guide me in the ways of
holiness, so that I may always do what is pleasing in your sight. Amen.

THE DIVINE MERCY NOVENA
The novena begins on Good Friday as Our Lord Jesus Christ instructed to St.
Faustina Kowalska. He also instructed to have confession on Divine Mercy
Sunday or at least 8 days after as He promised that whoever makes a
confession on this day, the sins will be completely forgiven.
1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross, 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary and The
Apostles Creed. An optional opening prayer can also be prayed for the
chaplet.
Et expletis Iesu, fons vitae et You died, Jesus, but the source of life
fluxerunt animarum et oceanum flowed out for souls and the ocean of
patefacta misericordia pro totius mercy opened up for the whole
mundi. Fons vivus, ineffabile divinae world. O Fountain of Life,
misericordiae, totius mundi immeasurable Divine Mercy, cover
vacuaeque amplecti teque nobis. the whole world and empty yourself
out upon us.
O sanguis et aqua, ut a fonte
fluxerunt ex Cor Iesu , miserere O Blood and Water which flowed out
nobis . Ego confido in vobis! (3X) from the heart of Jesus as a Fountain
of Mercy for us, I trust in You! (3X)
9
2. Then on the Our Father Beads say the following:
Pater aeterne, offero tibi Corpus et Eternal Father, I offer You the Body
Sanguinem, animam et divinitatem and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your
dilectissimi Filii Tui, Domini nostri, dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus
Iesu Christi, in propitiatione pro Christ, in atonement for our sins and
peccatis nostris et totius mundi. those of the whole world.
Pro dolorosa Eius passione, miserere For the sake of His sorrowful
nobis et totius mundi. Passion, have mercy on us and on the
whole world.
Sanctus Deus, Sanctus Fortis, Sanctus Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy
Immortalis, miserere nobis et totius Immortal One, have mercy on us and
mundi. on the whole world.
O greatly Merciful God, Infinite Goodness, today all mankind calls out from
the abyss of its misery to Your mercy---to Your compassion, O God; and it is
with its mighty voice of misery that it cries out. Gracious God do not reject
the prayer of this earth's exiles! O Lord, Goodness beyond our understanding,
Who are acquainted with our misery through and through, and know that by
our own power we cannot ascend to You, we implore You; anticipate us with
Your Grace and keep on increasing Your mercy in us, that we may faithfully
do Your holy will all through our life and at death's hour.
Let the omnipotence of Your mercy shield us from the darts of our salvation's
enemies, that we may with confidence, as Your children await Your final
coming - that day known to You alone.
10
And we expect to obtain everything promised us by Jesus in spite of all our
wretchedness. For Jesus is our Hope: Through His merciful Heart as through
an open gate we pass through to heaven. Amen
FIRST DAY
"Today bring to Me all mankind, especially all sinners, and immerse them
in the ocean of My mercy. In this way you will console Me in the bitter grief
into which the loss of souls plunges Me."
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon all mankind and especially
upon poor sinners, all enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus.
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion show us Your mercy, that we may
praise the omnipotence of Your mercy for ever and ever. Amen.
SECOND DAY
"Today bring to Me the Souls of Priests and Religious, and immerse them
in My unfathomable mercy. It was they who gave me strength to endure My
bitter Passion. Through them as through channels My mercy flows out
upon mankind."
Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, increase Your grace
in men and women consecrated to Your service, that they may perform
worthy works of mercy; and that all who see them may glorify the Father of
Mercy who is in heaven.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the company of chosen ones in
Your vineyard -- upon the souls of priests and religious; and endow them
with the strength of Your blessing. For the love of the Heart of Your Son in
which they are enfolded, impart to them Your power and light, that they may
11
be able to guide others in the way of salvation and with one voice sing praise
to Your boundless mercy for ages without end. Amen.
THIRD DAY
"Today bring to Me all Devout and Faithful Souls, and immerse them in
the ocean of My mercy. These souls brought me consolation on the Way of
the Cross. They were a drop of consolation in the midst of an ocean of
bitterness."
Most Merciful Jesus, from the treasury of Your mercy, You impart Your
graces in great abundance to each and all. Receive us into the abode of Your
Most Compassionate Heart and never let us escape from It. We beg this grace
of You by that most wondrous love for the heavenly Father with which Your
Heart burns so fiercely.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon faithful souls, as upon the
inheritance of Your Son. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, grant them
Your blessing and surround them with Your constant protection. Thus may
they never fail in love or lose the treasure of the holy faith, but rather, with all
the hosts of Angels and Saints, may they glorify Your boundless mercy for
endless ages. Amen.
FOURTH DAY
"Today bring to Me pagans who do not believe in God and those who do
not know Me, I was thinking also of them during My bitter Passion, and
their future zeal comforted My Heart. Immerse them in the ocean of My
mercy."
Most compassionate Jesus, You are the Light of the whole world. Receive
into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who do
not believe in God and of those who as yet do not know You. Let the rays of
Your grace enlighten them that they, too, together with us, may extol Your
wonderful mercy; and do not let them escape from the abode which is Your
Most Compassionate Heart.
12
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those pagans who
do not believe in You, and of those who as yet do not know You, but who are
enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Draw them to the light
of the Gospel. These souls do not know what great happiness it is to love
You. Grant that they, too, may extol the generosity of Your mercy for endless
ages. Amen.
FIFTH DAY
Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, You do not refuse light to those who
seek it of You. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart
the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Church. Draw
them by Your light into the unity of the Church, and do not let them escape
from the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it about that
they, too, come to glorify the generosity of Your mercy.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those heretics and
schismatics who have separated themselves from Your Son's Church, who
have squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by obstinately
persisting in their errors. Do not look upon their errors, but upon the love of
Your own Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their
sake, since they, too, are enclosed in His Most Compassionate Heart. Bring it
about that they also may glorify Your great mercy for endless ages. Amen.
13
SIXTH DAY
“Today bring to Me the Meek and Humble Souls and the Souls of Little
Children, and immerse them in My mercy. These souls most closely
resemble My Heart. They strengthened Me during My bitter agony. I saw
them as earthly Angels, who will keep vigil at My altars. I pour out upon
them whole torrents of grace. I favor humble souls with My confidence.”
Most Merciful Jesus, You yourself have said, "Learn from Me for I am meek
and humble of heart." Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate
Heart all meek and humble souls and the souls of little children. These souls
send all heaven into ecstasy and they are the heavenly Father's favorites.
They are a sweet-smelling bouquet before the throne of God; God Himself
takes delight in their fragrance. These souls have a permanent abode in Your
Most Compassionate Heart, O Jesus, and they unceasingly sing out a hymn of
love and mercy.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon meek souls, upon humble souls,
and upon little children who are enfolded in the abode which is the Most
Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls bear the closest resemblance to
Your Son. Their fragrance rises from the earth and reaches Your very throne.
Father of mercy and of all goodness, I beg You by the love You bear these
souls and by the delight You take in them: Bless the whole world, that all
souls together may sing out the praises of Your mercy for endless ages
Amen.
14
SEVENTH DAY
Most Merciful Jesus, whose Heart is Love Itself, receive into the abode of
Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who particularly extol and
venerate the greatness of Your mercy. These souls are mighty with the very
power of God Himself. In the midst of all afflictions and adversities they go
forward, confident of Your mercy; and united to You, O Jesus, they carry all
mankind on their shoulders. These souls will not be judged severely, but
Your mercy will embrace them as they depart from this life.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls who glorify and
venerate Your greatest attribute, that of Your fathomless mercy, and who are
enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls are a living
Gospel; their hands are full of deeds of mercy, and their hearts, overflowing
with joy, sing a canticle of mercy to You, O Most High! I beg You O God:
Show them Your mercy according to the hope and trust they have placed in
You. Let there be accomplished in them the promise of Jesus, who said to
them that during their life, but especially at the hour of death, the souls who
will venerate this fathomless mercy of His, He, Himself, will defend as His
glory. Amen.
15
EIGHTH DAY
"Today bring to Me the Souls who are in the prison of Purgatory, and
immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. Let the torrents of My Blood cool
down their scorching flames. All these souls are greatly loved by Me. They
are making retribution to My justice. It is in your power to bring them
relief. Draw all the indulgences from the treasury of My Church and offer
them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the torments they suffer, you
would continually offer for them the alms of the spirit and pay off their
debt to My justice."
Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You desire mercy; so I
bring into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls in
Purgatory, souls who are very dear to You, and yet, who must make
retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which
gushed forth from Your Heart put out the flames of Purgatory, that there, too,
the power of Your mercy may be celebrated.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in Purgatory,
who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I beg You, by
the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which
His most sacred Soul was flooded: Manifest Your mercy to the souls who are
under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them in no other way but only through
the Wounds of Jesus, Your dearly beloved Son; for we firmly believe that
there is no limit to Your goodness and compassion. Amen.
16
NINTH DAY
"Today bring to Me the Souls who have become Lukewarm, and immerse
them in the abyss of My mercy. These souls wound My Heart most
painfully. My soul suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of
Olives because of lukewarm souls. They were the reason I cried out:
'Father, take this cup away from Me, if it be Your will.' For them, the last
hope of salvation is to run to My mercy."
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon lukewarm souls who are
nonetheless enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of
Mercy, I beg You by the bitter Passion of Your Son and by His three-hour
agony on the Cross: Let them, too, glorify the abyss of Your mercy. Amen.
O God. let every beat of my heart be a new hymn of thanksgiving to You. Let
every drop of my blood circulate for You, Lord. My soul is one hymn in
adoration of Your mercy. I love You, God, for Yourself alone
O Greatly Merciful God, Infinite Goodness, today all mankind calls out from
the abyss of its misery to Your mercy, to Your compassion, O God; and it is
with a mighty voice of misery that it cries out. Gracious God, do not reject
the prayer of this earth‘s exiles! O Lord, Goodness beyond our
understanding, Who are acquainted with our misery through and through and
know that by our own power we cannot ascend to You, we implore You: fill
us with Your grace and keep on increasing Your mercy in us, that we may
17
faithfully do Your holy will all through our lives and at the hour of death. Let
the omnipotence of Your mercy shield us from the darts of our salvation‘s
enemies, that we may with confidence, as Your children, await Your final
coming. (Diary, 1570).
…..
O Jesus, stretched out upon the cross, I implore You, give me the grace of
following faithfully the most holy will of Your Father in all things, always
and everywhere. And when this will of God seems to me very harsh and
difficult to fulfill, it is then I beg You, Jesus, may power and strength flow
upon me from Your wounds, and may my lips keep repeating - Your will be
done, O Lord (...) O most compassionate Jesus, grant me the grace to forget
myself that I may live totally for souls, helping You in the work of salvation,
according to the most holy will of Your Father. (Diary, 1265).
…..
O Jesus, I want to live in the present moment, to live as if this were the last
day of my life. I want to use every moment scrupulously for the greater glory
of God, to use every circumstance for the benefit of my soul. I want to look
upon everything from the point of view that nothing happens without the will
of God. God of unfathomable mercy, embrace the whole world and pour
Yourself out upon us through the merciful Heart of Jesus. (Diary 1183)

VIA LUCIS
THE TRAIL OF LIGHT
The most appropriate time to practice this devotion is during the Easter
Season, especially on the Great Easter Octave, Sundays of Easter leading to
Pentecost.
OPENING PRAYER
O Risen Lord, the Way, the Truth, and the Life, make us faithful followers of
the Spirit of Your Resurrection. Grant that we may be inwardly renewed,
dying to ourselves in order that You may live in us. May our lives serves as
signs of transforming power of Your love. Use us as Your instruments for the
renewal of society, bringing Your life and love to all, and leading them to
Your Church. This we ask of You, Lord Jesus, living and reigning with the
Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
Reading
The angel of the Lord said to the women: ―Do not be afraid! I know that you
are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for He has been raised just as
He said.‖ (Matthew 28: 5b-6a).
20
Prayer
Lord Jesus, we thank you for the good news of your Resurrection, for the
earthquake and the broken seals, for the heavy tombstone flung aside. As so
many pieces of bad news darken our horizon and our hearts, the message
from your angel assures us that it is life, and not death, that has the last word.
Remove from our society all the signs of the ―culture of death‖ and make us
heralds and instruments of the ―culture of life‖ that you inaugurated and
established with your Resurrection.
SECOND STATION
The Disciples Discover the Empty Tomb
Reading
Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb
first, and he saw and believed. (John 20: 8)
Prayer
Lord Jesus, often your empty tomb is not enough for us. We need to see other
―signs‖ that you are really alive, Enable us, with your grace, to ―see‖ the
many signs of your Resurrection in the Church, in her sacraments, in the lives
of the good people around us, and especially in those ordinary actions done
with patience, generosity, and sincere love. Make us ―convincing signs‖ that
you have shattered the fetters of death and have sowed in us the seed of the
undying life of God‘s grace.
21
THIRD STATION
The Risen Lord Appears to St. Mary Magdalene
Reading
She turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus. Jesus
said to her, ‗Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?‘ She
thought He was the gardener and said to Him, ‗Sir, if you carried Him away,
tell me where you laid Him, and I will take Him.‘ Jesus said to her, ‗Mary!‖
She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, ‗Rabboni,‘ which means Teacher.
Jesus said to her, ‗Stop holding on to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the
Father. But go to My brothers and tell them, ‗I am going to My Father and
your Father, to My God and your God.‘ Mary of Magdala went and
announced to the disciples, ‗I have seen the Lord,‘ and what He told her.‖
(John 20: 14b-18)
Prayer
Call us by name, Lord, and reawaken in us the spirit of faith in your constant
presence. Call us by name, Lord, when we find ourselves drowning in the
raging ocean of our defeats and hurts, • when we are tempted to say or do
what we will regret bitterly in days to come. Call us by name, Lord, when our
lust or pride or greed or hatred threatens to destroy in one instant, in
ourselves or others, what we have labored to build for months or years. Call
us by name, O Lord, and we shall be saved.
22
FOURTH STATION
The Risen Lord Appears on the Road to Emmaus
Reading
It happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus Himself
drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from
recognizing Him…. And He said to them, ‗Oh, how foolish you are! How
slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that
the Messiah should suffer these things and enter into His glory?‘ Then
beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He interpreted to them what
referred to Him in all the scriptures. (Luke 24: 15, 25-27)
Prayer
Walk with us, Lord, in the dark moments of our lives, when all friends are
gone, and the enemies are many. Walk by our side and be our fellow traveler
in the long journey toward the Emmaus of our eternal rest, and unlock for us
the meaning of those Scriptures in which the story of God and our story
merge into one. Walk and abide with us when the evening shadows fall and
our hearts yearn for peace and friends, and for that rest that our souls can find
in you alone.
23
FIFTH STATION
The Risen Lord is Recognized in the Breaking of the Bread
Reading
They urged Him, ―Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost
over.‖ So He went in to stay with them. And it happened that while He was
with them at table, He took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to
them. With that, their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, but He
vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, ‗Were not our hearts
burning within us while He spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures
to us.‘ (Luke 24: 29-32).
Prayer
Break bread with us, Lord Jesus, thus sharing our poverty and our needs.
Break your Bread for us – the Bread of the pure and of the strong, the Bread
in which you chose to imprison yourself to be the divine food for our weary
hearts. The Bread that reveals and makes present to every generation the
fruits of your Passion, Death and Resurrection. Break your Bread for us, O
Lord, and reveal yourself to us and transform us into heralds of your
Resurrection – that great Event which gives life to the world and gives
meaning and hope to our lives. Break your Bread for us, Lord. Our hearts are
hungry for you! Make every day a lasting Emmaus since early morning.

SIXTH STATION
The Risen Lord Appears to the Community of Disciples
Reading
―Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at
My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Touch Me and see, because a ghost
does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have,‘ And as He said this, He
showed them His hands and His feet‖ (Luke 24: 38-40).
Prayer
Grant us your peace, Lord Jesus, the peace that you alone can give, the peace
that we have searched for in vain in shameful compromises and surrenders.
Grant us your peace, Lord, to overcome the fears that grip us at the thought of
our sins. Grant us your peace, Lord, at the end of every day and in a special
manner, when the struggle of this life is over, and we, full of scars and guilt,
knock at your door, trusting only in the healing power of your merciful love.
SEVENTH STATION
The Risen Lord Breathes Peace and Gives the Power to Forgive
Reading
Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, ‗Peace be with you‘.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again,
‗Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so I send you.‘ And when He
had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, ‗Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are
retained'‖ (John 20: 19b, 20b-23).
25
Prayer
Thank you for the gift of your presence, Lord. Thank you for strengthening
the faith of your disciples by showing them the marks of your suffering
which proved the reality of your Death and Resurrection. Thank you for
making them and us sharers in your mission in the world. Thank you for the
gift of the Spirit with whom you empowered your Church to be the channel
of your forgiveness. Your Easter generosity overwhelms us and makes us
share in the fullness of joy that your Resurrection brings to each of us and all
mankind. We have nothing to offer you in return, save our frail
hearts, eager to welcome you • and live for you forever.
EIGHTH STATION
The Risen Lord Strengthens the Faith of Thomas
Reading
Thomas was not with them when Jesus came. Thomas said, ‗Unless I see the
mark of the nails in His hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put
my hand into His side, I will not believe‘. Jesus came and stood in their midst
and said, ‗Peace be with you.‘ Then He said to Thomas, ‗Put your finger here
and see My hands, and bring your hand and put it into My side, and do not be
unbelieving, but believe Blessed are those who do not see and yet believe.‖
(John 20: 24-29).
Prayer
Forgive us, Lord, for our slowness to believe. Forgive, O Lord, our temerity
in daring to demand that you give us proofs of the reality of your
Resurrection, while closing our eyes to the numberless signs of your love for
us at every step, every moment of our life. Forgive us, Lord, for our failure to
be to those around us a clear sign of the reality of your Resurrection. May all
our attitudes, words and deeds be a constant witness to the reality of the new
life which you bestowed on us through your resurrection. Do fill us, Lord,
26
with the blessings that you have in store for those who believe without having
seen you.
NINTH STATION
The Risen Lord Eats with the Disciples on the Shore of Tiberias
Reading
Jesus said to them, ‗Bring some of the fish you just caught.‘ So Simon Peter
went over and dragged the net ashore full of one hundred fifty-three large
fish. Even though there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to
them, ‗Come, have breakfast.‘ And none of His disciples dared to ask Him,
‗Who are You?‘ because they realized it was the Lord‖ (John 21: 10-12).
Prayer
Teach us, Lord, what to do to make our life a success. Teach us to work in a
way that we build with you the wonderful construction of your Kingdom.
Teach us to work in a spirit of faith with patience, wisdom and love, in all
humility and perseverance, in full awareness that it is you • who builds the
house and gives it stability. Remind us that, if we do not work with you, we
labor in vain under the scorching sun or in the dark nights of a fruitless life.
TENTH STATION
The Risen Lord Forgives Peter and Entrusts Him to Feed His Sheep
Reading
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ―Simon, son of
John, do you love Me?‖ Peter was distressed that Jesus had said to him a
27
third time, ‗Do you love Me?‘ and he said to Him, ‗Lord, You know
everything, You know that I love You.‘ Jesus said to him, ‗Feed my sheep‖
(John 21: 15, 17b, 19b)
Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for giving your flock, the Church, a visible Head Shepherd
who, in your name, guides us all to the meadows of eternal life. Thank you, O
Lord, for reminding him and us that what matters in life is the sincerity of our
love for you – a love that is not frightened by our own failings, nor by the
violence of the attacks that are unleashed against those who dare to stand by
you, no matter what, a love that trusts only in the power of your grace and the
depth of your love.
ELEVENTH STATION
The Risen Lord Sends the Disciples into the World
Reading
―Go therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to
observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always,
until the end of the age.‖ (Matthew 28: 19-20)
Prayer
It is beautiful, Lord, to hear you say that your work goes on; to hear you send
your apostles and us to proclaim to the nations of the world the richness of
your love for all. It is wonderful to hear you reassure them and us that you
will always be with your Church to steady its course and to direct it. We
thank you, Lord, for your trust and the mission to proclaim and make present,
wherever we are, the Kingdom you brought to this earth – to make of all
peoples a family of nations gathered into one by the one God of love.
28
TWELFTH STATION
The Risen Lord Ascends into Heaven
Reading
So then the Lord Jesus, after He spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and
took His seat at the right hand of God. But they went forth and preached
everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word
through accompanying signs. (Mark 16: 19-20)
Prayer
Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ! We praise and worship you, as you share the
glory of the Almighty forever. We give you thanks for making us the heirs of
your mission. We have learned at your school that the world can and must
become the beginning of God‘s Kingdom –where justice is not just a dream;
a place where peace is not just an aspiration; where the greatest yearning
should not be • to grab what we lust for, but to give to those in need till it
hurts. We are called to believe in the Kingdom; to pray for its coming; to
work for its realization, to suffer for its purification till it becomes a
wonderful reality, fulfilled in you and through you, our eternal King.
THIRTEENTH STATION
Mary and the Disciples Keep Vigil in the Upper Room to receive the
Holy Spirit
Reading
When they entered the city, they went to the upper room where they were
staying…. All [the apostles] devoted themselves with one accord to prayer,
together with some women, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, and His brothers.
(Acts 1: 13a, 14)
29
Prayer
Father most holy, see Your Church gathered here in prayerful worship like
the first disciples and Mary in the Upper Room. Grant that we may
accomplish, in the joy of the Holy Spirit, all that You give us to do in the
world. May we gladly share in Christ‘s sufferings so as to rejoice when His
glory is revealed. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
FOURTEENTH STATION
The Risen Lord Sends the Holy Spirit
Reading
Suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it
filled the entire house. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which
parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the
Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled
them to proclaim. (Acts 2: 2-4)
Prayer
Father in heaven, through this spiritual journey, You have reminded us of the
fullness of the mystery of Your revealed love. See Your people gathered in
prayer, open to receive the Spirit‘s flame. May it come to rest in our hearts
and disperse the divisions of word and tongue. With one voice and one song,
may we praise Your name in joy and thanksgiving. Grant this through Christ
our Lord, and in the power of the Spirit, both now and forevermore. Amen.
30
CONCLUDING PRAYER
God Our Father, by raising Christ Your Son, You conquered the power of
death and opened for us the way of eternal life. Let our celebration of Easter
raise us up and renew our lives by the Spirit that is within us. You wash away
our sins in water, give us new birth in the Spirit, and redeem us in the Blood
of Christ. May we look forward with hope to our Resurrection, for You have
made us Your sons and daughters and restored the joy of our youth. We ask
this through Our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.

abandoned us, sweet Jesus; never have You failed us. Through dark nights
and difficult moments, You carry us. There is no fear when You are near.

O Loving Son, as the Father has entrusted all of You, we lift up to You, in
particular, His Holiness, (name), all the Bishops, Priest, religious, lay leaders,
family heads and all those who have flock under their care, that they may
shepherd them after Your own heart.
Bring back quickly to the fold those who are lost. Send the Spirit to make us
humble, meek and obedient, that You may be pleased to grant our every plea
specially this one (Make your request)
O Good Shepherd, You are our only hope. Only You can make us one; only
You can renew our land. Only You can lead us safely to our true home where
at last, we shall see and adore You face to face forever. Amen.
38
NOVENA IN HONOR OF THE ASCENSION OF
OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST
O Lord Jesus, I honor You on the feast of Your Ascension into heaven. I
rejoice with all my heart at the glory into which You entered to reign as King
of heaven and earth. When the struggle of this life is over, give me the grace
to share Your joy and triumph in heaven for all eternity.
I believe that You entered into Your glorious Kingdom to prepare a place for
me, for You promised to come again to take me to Yourself. Grant that I may
seek only the joys of Your friendship and love, so that I may deserve to be
united with You in heaven.
Jesus, in Your love for me You have brought me from evil to good and from
misery to happiness. Give me the grace to rise above my human weakness.
May Your Humanity give me courage in my weakness and free me from my
sins.
Through Your grace, give me the courage of perseverance for You have
called and justified me by faith. May I hold fast to the life You have given me
and come to the eternal gifts You promised.

this special favor:
By Your unceasing care, guide my steps toward the life of glory You have
prepared for those who love You. Make me grow in holiness and thank You
by a life of faithful service. Amen.
39
NOVENA PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER
St. Joseph, by the work of your hands and the sweat of your brow, you
supported Jesus and Mary, and had the Son of God as your fellow worker.
Teach me to work as you did, with patience and perseverance, for God and
for those whom God has given me to support.
When it is pleasant and productive, remind me to give thanks to God for it.
And when it is burdensome, teach me to offer it to God, in reparation for my
sins and the sins of the world.
O good father St. Joseph! I beg you, by all your sufferings, sorrows and joys,
to obtain for me what I ask. (Name your petition)
Obtain for all those who have asked my prayers, everything that is useful to
them in the plan of God. Be near to me in my last moments that I may
eternally sing the praises of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Amen.
40
heart to see the mystical spouse of Christ and His vicar weakened by sorrow
and persecuted by powerful enemies. We beseech thee, by the most bitter
suffering thou didst experience on earth, to wipe away in mercy the tears of
the revered pontiff, to defend and liberate him, and to intercede with the
Giver of peace and charity, that every hostile power being overcome and
every error being destroyed, the whole Church may serve the God of all
blessings in perfect liberty. Amen.
O Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus and my dear Mother, invoking you
under the title ―Our Lady of the Visitation‖, I ask you that just as you visited
your cousin Elizabeth, come and visit my family, because we are in need of
many graces, most importantly, those who seek the fruit of the womb (pause
and ask for grace).
We hope to always welcome your humble presence through the poor and less
privileged. That with your example we can be more charitable towards our
brothers and sisters, going to visit them and comfort them in their needs.
Oh! Virgin Mary, who, moved by the Holy Spirit, set out on your way to visit
your cousin Saint Elizabeth so that the presence of the Incarnate Word would
free the Baptist from original sin; may your visit obtain for me the
forgiveness of my sins with a firm resolution not to sin again.
May our visit to those in need not bring them sorrow but enable them to
rejoice and do God‘s will just as John the Baptist rejoiced in the womb of his
mother and sought to do God‘s will all through his life.
Dearest Mother, you are the first missionary, who took our Lord Jesus to your
cousin Elizabeth and she was filled with the Holy Spirit. We ask that you also
bring our Lord Jesus to us in this present life, and after this our exile, show
unto us, the Blessed Fruit of thy womb Jesus; o Clement, o Loving, o Sweet
Virgin Mary. Amen.
41
NOVENA IN HONOR OF MARY, MEDIATRIX OF ALL GRACES
Glory be...
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that
anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine
intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O
Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful
and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but
in thy mercy hear and answer
me. Amen.
We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions
In our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O Glorious Virgin
Mary (Mention your petitions.)
Remember us, O Virgin Mother of God, in the presence of the Lord, and do
you speak in our favor so that His wrath may be averted to us.
Let us pray: O Lord Jesus Christ, our Mediator with the Father, who has
appointed the Most Blessed Virgin, Thy Mother to be our Mother also and
our Mediatrix before Thee; grant that whoever draw near to thee to beseech
any benefit, may receive all things through Her and rejoice, who lives and
reigns with God the Father and the Holy spirit forever and ever. Amen.
42
NOVENA TO MARY, MOTHER OF THE CHURCH
Mother, help our faith! Open our ears to hear God‘s word and to recognize
his voice and call. Awaken in us a desire to follow in his footsteps, to go
forth from our own land and to receive his promise. Help us to be touched by
his love, that we may touch him in faith. Help us to entrust ourselves fully to
him and to believe in his love, especially at times of trial, beneath the shadow
of the cross, when our faith is called to mature. Sow in our faith the joy of the
Risen One. Remind us that those who believe are never alone. Teach us to
see all things with the eyes of Jesus, that he may be light for our path. And
may this light of faith always increase in us, until the dawn of that undying
day which is Christ himself, your Son, our Lord. Amen
43
NOVENA TO OUR LADY OF FATIMA
(Feast Day is commemorated every May 13)
OPENING PRAYER
I earnestly desire that all the people of the world be brought back to a humble
knowledge and love of the Sacred Heart of your Dear Son. I pray, dear
Mother of my God, that the indescribable beauty and the glow-white purity
of your own Immaculate Heart may so captivate our souls that we will detest
all sin and dedicate our lives to the honor and glory of the God Who created
us.
As much as I feel the need of many things, I do not dare in this novena,
Mother Mary, to ask one selfish petition for myself. You revealed the secrets
of your own sad heart at Fatima and begged for the restoration of the world to
God. What can I ask of greater good than to unite my heart to yours in this
great yearning? What can I add but the fervent prayer that all the world may
listen to your pleading?
44
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, I give you my heart.
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, I put my trust entirely in you.
O Queen of the Holy Rosary, Sweet Lady of Fatima who has deigned to
appear in the land of Portugal and hast restored peace at home and abroad to
this country once in such turmoil, we beseech thee, look graciously upon our
dear land, and by thy power raise it from the depths to which it has fallen,
and reestablish it in spiritual and moral strength.
Bring back peace, also, to all the peoples of the earth so that all nations,
especially our own, may rejoice to hail thee as their Queen and as the Queen
of Peace. Amen.
FIRST DAY
O Mary Immaculate, Mother of the Sacred Heart, I beg the grace to grieve
with sincere heart for the sins that weigh upon the souls of men. With vivid
memory I now recall the sharp spikes, the crown of thorns, the cruel lash that
brought about His agony. Yet there were but the lifeless instruments of pain.
It was my sins that really shed the Precious Blood. He willed through an
excess of love to suffer all for my salvation. Can I do aught but lend the little
love I have pay up to make amends for the thoughtless world that lacks
appreciation?
O Mother of the Sorrowful Passion you shared with Him each pain our sins
45
inflicted. Beg for us the privileged grace that we may unite our hearts with
yours in an honest effort to pay up for the double insult we have dealt / by
the malice of deliberate sin.
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, inflame our hearts with love of reparation.
FATIMA PRAYERS
My God, I believe, I adore, I trust and I love Thee! I beg pardon for all those
that do not believe, do not adore, do not trust and do not love Thee.
Most Holy Trinity, I adore you! My God, my God, I love you in the Most
Blessed Sacrament.
O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore Thee profoundly. I
offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ
present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages,
sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended. By the infinite merits
of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary I beg the
conversion of poor sinners.
O Jesus, it is for the love of You, in reparation for the offences committed
against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and for the conversion of poor
sinners. [I offer You this sacrifice.]
O my Jesus, forgive us of our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all
souls into heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.
CLOSING PRAYER
Mother Mary, sweet Lady of Fatima, in humble reverence and with contrite
heart, I place my life within your loving embrace. I beg to rest my sin-stained
heart in you. May we understand through the precious graces pouring forth
46
from your Immaculate Heart, what Fatima means for all of us. We ask in
particular to help us in the following intentions. (Mention them)
May the voice of Our Lady go forth into all lands! May her desire to renew
the devotion to the Holy Rosary, ring out over all the earth. May it save a
poor distracted world from the consequences of its own folly and bring all
hearts to the feet of Jesus. Immaculate Mother, Queen Mother of us all, guide
us to Jesus, your Son. Amen.
SECOND DAY
O Mother Immaculate, Queen of the Rosary, we must learn to love those little
beads. In every trial and sorrow they have always been a consolation to all
who trust in you. Our joyful days are happier when you can share the things
that cause delight. May your Rosary, O Mary, my Mother, always be for me
my strength in weakness, my peace in affliction, my comfort in day of doubt,
my courage in time of trial, the consolation of all my days through all my life.
May it be the steadying influence that I need when I find success and the
support of my soul when failure marks my efforts. In all things, with childlike
trust may I live my life, in peaceful union with your own, through the happy
medium of the Rosary. Amen.
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, may true devotion to your Rosary quickly
spread throughout the world.
THIRD DAY
47
zealous lives point out the path that all must take to the goal of worldwide
harmony.
Bless the fortunate land of Portugal, chosen to welcome you as our earthly
guest. Inspire our own people and our leaders that we may humbly recognize,
receive, ponder and promote the glorious cause that your message clearly
revealed in Fatima. Amen.
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, dispel the hatred in the hearts of men and
grant us in its stead the gift of universal charity.
FOURTH DAY
O Mary Immaculate, Mother of gentle love hasten the day of deliverance for
the poor suffering souls in Purgatory. We obey your request to pray for them
and beg the solace of relief, especially for the most abandoned souls. Sweet
Mother of a merciful Son, lessen the toll that must be taken. Accept our
humble sacrifices, our much-distracted prayers, our small efforts at
reparation. Draw from the inexhaustible treasury of the undying Church the
payment for the punishment that is due. I pray that through the merits of your
suffering Son, your own precious spiritual treasures and those of the saints,
that God, our Father, may be mindful of the prayers we make for those poor
souls who can no longer help themselves. Amen.
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, relieve the poor suffering souls in
Purgatory, especially those who have no one to pray for them.
FIFTH DAY
48
life that I may be worthy, through the merits of Jesus Christ, to enjoy the
reward of His all-merciful Heart. Amen. ,
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, impress upon our minds the reality of the
flames of hell and deliver us from their burning touch.
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, make me and keep me pure of heart.
SIXTH DAY
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, make me and keep me pure of heart.
49
SEVENTH DAY
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, I thank you with all my heart for your
constant intercession.
EIGHTH DAY
O Immaculate Mary, Queen of all nations, our fears grow less and our spirits
rise because of your calm assurance of protection. How could we have known
that the menace of atheism and the threat of godless Communism would be
averted? Your promise of conversion for the harassed victims of this tyranny
gives hope and joy and confident relief to all the nations of the world.
Our hearts go out to the homeless waifs, the persecuted people that the
Communist terror raised up in that war-weary land. Grant that the gratitude
we feel may be expressed in worthy deeds not empty words. We fail our part,
by your own words, unless we spread in every place devotion to your
Immaculate Heart in sincere, active reparation. O Mary, Mother of the Prince
of Peace, we promise with our prayers at least, to play our part. Amen.
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, may the reign of Christ reach out to all
the nations of the world.
50
NINTH DAY
O Mary Immaculate, Mother of the Babe of Bethlehem, light in our poor dull
hearts a tiny spark of the spirit of child-like innocence. Three tiny ones in
Fatima drew from our loving Lord the favor of your saving presence here on
earth. How often you have shown your great regard for the sinlessness of
youth! Can we show you, Mother Mary, that we really understand, in any
better way than by a fervent prayer for all the little children everywhere?
Keep them, O sinless Mother, in their happy innocence. Protect their homes.
Preserve the schools wherein they learn and let them not be harmed by
godless teaching. Direct their play and little chores that they may grow in
wisdom, age and grace. Inspire their parents everywhere with a Godly fear
and love of His Commandments.
Grant that through the prayers of little ones we may soon enjoy the peace and
unity that you have foretold. May the Blessed Trinity hasten the day when the
world will be restored in thought and word and deed, through the name of
Jesus Christ, Thy Son, and to the honor of thine own great Immaculate Heart.
Amen.
Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, we beg to share in the triumph of thy
Immaculate Heart throughout the world.
Hail, Mother of the Lord, Virgin Mary, Queen of the Rosary of Fatima!
Blessed among all women, you are the image of the Church dressed in the
Paschal light, you are the honor of our people, you are the triumph over the
mark of evil. Prophecy of the merciful Love of the Father, Teacher of the
Annunciation of the Good News of the Son, Sign of the burning Fire of the
Holy Spirit, teach us, in this valley of joys and sorrows, the eternal truths that
the Father reveals to the little ones.
51
In unity with my brethren, In Faith, Hope and Love, I surrender myself to
you. in unity with my brethren, through you, I consecrate myself to God, O
Virgin of the Rosary of Fatima. And thus surrounded by the Light that comes
from your hands, I will give Glory to the Lord for ever and ever. Amen.
O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Let Us Pray, O God of infinite goodness and mercy, fill our hearts with a
great confidence in Thy dear Mother, whom we invoke under the title of Our
Lady of the Rosary and our Lady of Fatima, and grant us by her powerful
intercession all the graces, spiritual and temporal, which we need. Through
Christ our Lord. Amen.
52

May your shining example guide us on our pilgrimage towards finding peace
in our lives. We beseech your Son, Jesus Christ, to grant our fervent prayers
and petitions through your maternal intercession.
53
Thank you dearest Mother for constantly protecting our community, family
and country. We implore you our Mother to continue leading us to Jesus, who
is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, now and forever. Amen.
SECOND DAY
Almighty Father, Your works and ways are truly mysterious. You saced
Mary from original sin and from all its iniquities since the beginning of her
conception. You also made her an instrument in the salvation of mankind.
Inculcate in our hearts and minds the love for the Immaculate Mother of God,
La Divina Pastora. We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, in union with
the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
THIRD DAY
Dear God, we fully see and feel the special attention given by the Holy Spirit
to the Blessed Virgin. He overshadowed the Blessed Virgin in a special and
miraculous way so that the child that she would bear would be conceived by
the Holy Spirit. We pray, Father, that we may follow Mary, La Divina
Pastora, in her obedience and cooperation with the works of the Holy Spirit
that we may always celebrate Your power and greatness through Our Lord
Jesus Christ, in union with the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
FOURTH DAY
Almighty God the Father, You have given the Blessed Virgin Mary true faith
in You. We pray now, that we may be given the spirit of understanding Your
words and will and may we believe this just like the Virgin, La Divina
Pastora. We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, in union with the Holy
Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
54
Mention your petition and pray the Hail Mary 3x
FIFTH DAY
Understanding Father, You are worthy of all praise and honor. May we share
with the humility of Mary, La Divina Pastora, in the midst of any honor or
success, talent or treasure, health and strength, even in sufferings or in
sickness, so we may offer this again to You, and use it for our fellowmen to
glorify You, through Our Lord Jesus Christ, in union with the Holy Spirit,
forever and ever. Amen.
SIXTH DAY
Lord FGod, whose knowledge and will can never be fathomed by any man,
grant that we may be like Mary, La Divina Pastora. Eliminate from our hearts
and minds the doubt and hesitation of obeying Your will always which is
brought to us through Your Holy Words explained and taught to us by the
disciples of the Catholic Church. We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ,
in union with the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
SEVENTH DAY
We thank You, O Lord, for being so loving and understanding. They may not
be worthy, but You regarded those who listen to Your Words and obey them
as Christ's brothers and sisters. We pray that we may be counted with Mary,
La Divina Pastora, in obeying Your words everday of our lives. We ask this
through Our Lord Jesus Christ, in union with the Holy Spirit, forever and
ever. Amen.
55
EIGHTH DAY
Dear God and Father, strengthened us through Mary, whom You cherish
most among all Your creations so she may be worthy to be the Mother of the
Messiah, Our Lord Jesus Christ, who is God, and Mother of the Holy Church,
the Mystical Body of Christ. Enkindle our love for Mary, so that together
with Mary, La Divina Pastora, we may be able to bring souls to Jesus. We
ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, in union with the Holy Spirit, forever
and ever. Amen.
NINTH DAY
Almighty God, You have granted the Virgin Mary, the privilee and qualities
to become the Mother of Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and gifted her
with the glory of heaven. May the prayers of Mary, La Divina Pastora, bring
us to the Salvation of Christ and raise us up to eternal life. We ask this
through Our Lord Jesus Christ, in union with the Holy Spirit, forever and
ever. Amen.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
Dearest Holy Spirit, confiding in Your deep, personal love for me, I am
making this novena for the following request, if it be Your Holy Will to grant
it (mention your request).
Teach me, Divine Spirit, to know and seek my last end; grant me the holy
fear of God; grant me true contrition and patience. Do not let me fall into sin.
Give me an increase of faith, hope and charity, and bring forth in my soul all
the virtues proper to my state in life.
Raise me to perfection in the state of life to which You have called me and
lead me through a happy death to everlasting life. I ask this through Christ
our Lord, Amen.
Daughter of the Most High, Mother of God, faithful Spouse of the Holy Spirit
- yet also Mary of Nazareth, Joseph‘s wife, my mother- hear my prayer for
grace, O Full of Grace.
66
Pray your Spouse, the Holy Spirit, to come upon me, to shelter me from all
ill, to strengthen me to do what is right, to teach me all truth.
Pray Him come to me and abide with me, and be within me a fountain
springing up unto eternal life. May he sustain me in sorrow, sanctify me in
life, and receive me at the hour of my death. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray
for me.
Through the Holy Spirit you became the Mother of Jesus; from the Holy
Spirit may I too have Jesus.
Through the Holy Spirit your flesh conceived Jesus; through the same Spirit
may my soul receive Jesus.
Through the Holy Spirit you were able to know Jesus, to possess Jesus, and
bring him into the world; through the Holy Spirit may I too come to know
your Jesus.
Imbued with the Spirit, Mary, you could say: ―I am the handmaid of the Lord,
be it done unto me according to your word‖; in the Holy Spirit, lowly as I am,
let me proclaim the great truths about Jesus.
In the Spirit you now adore Jesus as Lord and look on him as Son; in the
same Spirit, Mary, let me love your Jesus. Amen.
67
Holy Spirit, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, enter our hearts.
Holy Spirit, Who art equal to the Father and the Son, enter our hearts.
68
Holy Spirit, grant us the only necessary knowledge.
Holy Spirit, inspire in us the practice of good.
Holy Spirit, grant us the merits of all virtues.
Holy Spirit, make us persevere injustice.
Holy Spirit, be our everlasting reward.
Let Us Pray.
Grant, O merciful Father, that Thy Divine Spirit may enlighten, inflame and
purify us, that He may penetrate us with His heavenly dew and make us
fruitful in good works, through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who with
Thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, liveth and reigneth forever and ever.
Amen.
69
Your grace that I may never sin against You. Give me grace, O Holy Spirit,
Spirit of the Father and the Son to say to You always and everywhere, 'Speak
Lord for Your servant heareth.' Amen.
O Lord Jesus Christ, Who, before ascending into heaven, did promise to send
the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and
Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in
my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me the Spirit of
Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only
after the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my
mind with the light of Your divine truth, the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever
choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of
Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with
courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge
that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the
Saints, the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and
amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence
towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear
Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples and animate me in all things with
Your Spirit. Amen.
