REVIEWING FILM

FAST X

The 10th film in the FAST & FURIOUS feature-length series will be released
in May 2023. The film, directed by Luois Leterrier, is a sequel to F9 before ending
with the 11th film later according to plans since 2014. FAST X stars the main cast of
the FAST & FURIOUS series such as Vin Diesel. Through shooting conducted in five
different places in Europe and America, FAST X is estimated to be the seventh most
expensive film ever made with a budget of around 340 million dollars. FAST X is set
to be released in the United States on May 19, 2023 by Universal Pictures. The
second part of the series, the 11th film, is also in development.

The storyline of Fast X is made to have a connection with Fast Five (2011).
Those of you who watch Fast Five know that Dom and his family are up against
Hernan Reyes. So, Hernan's son, Dante Reyes, came to Fast X to take revenge for
the death of his father and Dom who also took all of his family's assets. Dom's family
has always been tested since the beginning of Fast & Furious. However, Fast X is
arguably the toughest test for Dom and his family throughout his life story in Fast &
Furious. Those of you who have followed Dom's story will surely know that his family
continues to grow. The increasing number of Dom's family members is what finally
makes it difficult for Dom in Fast X.

Dante knows that Dom really prioritizes his family and this is seen as Dom's
weak point. As a result, Dante takes his revenge by breaking Dom's family apart to
test whether Dom is able to save everyone he loves. Like several previous Fast &
Furious films, Dom re-activated his superspy soul or super spy to be able to save his
family which was divided into different countries.

Before this film was released, director Leterrier had promised that street
racing elements would return to Fast X. It's true that there was one moment that
showed Dom racing against Dante on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. However, after
seeing this entire film, I disagree with Leterrier's statement because Dom and
Dante's street racing moments are arguably minor and don't have a major effect on
making Fast X feel like a return to its roots. In fact, Fast X still maintains the
unreasonable action elements that fans of the previous Fast & Furious films have
been complaining about. You will still find many moments of coincidence that don't
make sense while watching this film. On the plus side, crazy moments like going into
space with just a car, which were featured in F9 (2021), are thankfully no longer
found in Fast X.

Realizing that Fast X has a story relationship with Fast Five, director Leterrier
clearly borrowed several elements from Fast Five to be remade in his film. Apart
from the flashback scene, the moment when Dom and Dante face off before the race
reminds me of the moment Dom faced Luke Hobbs. The moment when Aimes
worked with Dom also reminded me of the moment Dom and Hobbs first worked
together in Fast Five.

"Fast X" brings heart-stopping action, thrilling car races and unrelenting
tension. The film also explores themes of trust, forgiveness and what it means for
family in the face of an unimaginable threat. With a combination of great action,
interesting character development and unexpected plot twists, "Fast X" is an
entertaining continuation in the acclaimed "Fast and Furious" series.

Fast X is proof that the Fast & Furious franchise seems difficult to return to
their roots, namely street racing. This film does show moments of racing between
Dom and Dante. But overall, Dom continues to act like a "superhero" in keeping his
family intact from Dante's threats. Speaking of Dante, Jason Momoa can be
considered the MVP in this film with his crazy acting!
