Coffee Filter Activity #1
Directions: Take 2 coffee filters and place them on top of

white paper. Decorate your coffee filters with dot markers!
Fold coffee filters in half. Pinch together center of coffee
filters. Bend pipe cleaner in half to make antennas and then
open the clothes pin and stick them in.
Put pinched ends of coffee filters in clothes pin. You will
have your beautiful butterfly!

Chromatography
Directions: Fill Mason jars with 1-3 inches of water, depending

on how large your mason jars are. Set them on the counter or
table.Using your dot markers make a circle on your coffee filter
with one color. You can do this to however many coffee filters
you want. In this example we will do three! Fold your coffee
filter in half. Then fold it in half again. It should be quartered.
Take your coffee filter and place it in the mason jar. Only the
pointy tip of the coffee filter should be in the water. Do this
with all your coffee filters in the different mason jars. Watch
your coffee filters change color as the water is absorbed. This
could take anywhere between 10-20 minutes. Once the color has
reached the top of the coffee filter, take the filter out and
place it on a paper plate. Let it dry!

Planet Earth
Directions: Place coffee filter on top of paper. Use your blue

dot marker to make the ocean in the middle of the coffee filter.
Use your green dot marker to make the land on the sides of the
coffee filter. Dip your fingers or a spoon into the water. Add a
few drops of water on different spots of the coffee filter and
let it spread. Add more drops if the whole coffee filter is not
wet. Let it dry for 5-10 minutes! Then you have your planet!

Directions: Place coffee filter on top of white paper. Use the

red dot marker to start your rainbow! You can do this from the
outside or inside. Use it to dot the edge in a cirlcle. Take the
Orange Dot Marker and make a circle of dots inside the red
circle. Continue to make the circles following the colors of the
Rainbow. Red>Orange>Yellow>Green>Blue>Purple Then you will
have your rainbow!

Tie Dye
Directions: Put a white piece of paper under a coffee filter.

Make a Design of your choosing. (Could be a spiral or a pat-
tern). Take your fingers or a spoon and dip in the small cup of
water. Drip a few drops on the coffee filters. Continue doing
this until the coffee filter is all wet. It should not be a pool of
water. Let the coffee filter dry and admire your tie-dye design!

Fall Activity #1
Directions:
1. Have children collect leaves or collect them yourself ahead of time.
Smaller ones work a little better. [It is a fun challenge to have younger
kids find a certain number of each color. For example, gather 4 red, 3
orange, 4 yellow, and 2 green leaves.]
2. Let the kids cut a tree trunk and some branches from the brown con-
struction paper, or cut them ahead of time yourself for younger kids.
3. Glue trunk and branches on the background paper with a glue stick, or
use the brown dot marker to make a trunk and branches instead.
4. Use the dot markers to make leaves in colors you choose. We used red,
orange, and yellow to match our fall leaves.
5. Use white glue to glue the leaves on.
6. Let dry, and admire!

Santa Claus Countdown

Directions: Fill in Santa’s hat with your red dot marker.

Fill in the rosy cheeks with the pink dot marker. Use
your markers to color in Santa’s face. Use your marker
to write numbers 1-25 in the circles in Santa’s beard.
As each day gets closer to Christmas, have your kiddo
dot marker in a number. Start at 25 and have them work
backwards!

Directions: Take one piece of white paper and fold up a

corner to make a square. Cut off the remaining paper
at the top and lay the square out flat. Fold Match two
diagonal corners together to create a triangle. Fold the
triangle into thirds and cut out pieces of paper to
design your snowflake. Carefully unfold your snowflake
and lay it on a piece of paper. Using your dot marker,
color your snowflake! After the whole snowflake is col-
ored, lift it up off the paper. Now you have two beauti-
ful snowflakes!
