Direct and inverse variations


1. In a hostel, the cost of milk needed for 12 students is ₹ 5400. Find the number of students who consume milk
costing ₹9000.
2. In a fort, there were provisions for 400 men for 23 weeks. 60 more men joined them. How long will the provisions
last?
3. Ten pipes of the same type are required to fill a tank in 24 mn. If two pipes go out of order, how long, will the
remaining pipes take to fill the tank?
4. Suppose that ₹6900 can support a family for 15 days.
i) for how many days will ₹ 2300 support the same family?
ii) How much money is needed to support the same family for 62 days?
5. Twenty farmers can finish ploughing a field in 24 hours.
i) How many farmers are needed to complete the work in 15 hours?
ii) If 10 more farmers join, how long will it take to finish the job?

Ratio and Proportion
