REALIZATION, INSIGHT AND LEARNINGS
What is your role or contribution in our country's national security?
Student's Answer:

Every citizen of the Philippines has a role to play in contributing to the country, especially in
national security. To be able to fully understand and commit to every role, tertiary students take
a mandatory NSTP course.

As discussed in the previous weeks, the NSTP course consists of three program components
which are the Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC), Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), and
Literacy Training Service (LTS). Graduates of each program component have their own roles and
responsibilities different from one another. CWTS and LTS graduates are supervised under the
National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC) and are mainly responsible for civic welfare and literacy
activities. These activities involve the environment, education, health, morals, recreation, and
safety. Meanwhile, ROTC graduates are supervised by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, either
the Citizen Armed Forces or the Reserve Force. ROTC graduates are effectively educated and
trained concerning the defense establishment in the event of a national emergency. At the same
time, igniting the youth's patriotism and nationalism.

Concerning what has been discussed, I have already planned on taking the CWTS program. I
chose this program component because I want to contribute to establishing the country's general
welfare through the ways of CWTS. I am not physically fit enough to take on the challenges and
training of being an ROTC cadet, but I can exert an immense effort into doing physical work under
CWTS. I want to practice disaster preparedness, mitigation, and survival to help myself and
everyone in the community in times of emergency. I want to see my fellow citizens survive
through the harshest times and witness the happiness on their faces as I apply my learnings from
NSTP.

However, I am still one step away from training in the CWTS program. With limited power, the
only things that I can do for now are to follow the rules and instructions of the authorities in
supporting peace within the nation and to also educate myself about my future role in the
country, specifically being a CWTS graduate. Even as a student, there are ways I can practice and
express patriotism.

To sum it up, every citizen has a role in fulfilling the country's enhancement, and the NSTP can

help them acquire it at a young age. In my case, I would like to enroll in the CWTS program to
learn and practice different pieces of training involving the environment, health, and morals to
help my fellow Filipino citizens in the occurrence of national security threats. But for now, I will
focus on following knowledgeable people while educating myself properly to fulfill my role in the
CWTS program. These may look effortless, but all these activities will help save thousands of
Filipinos.
