Rationale of the Study

Forming a circle of friends or simply a company seems to be a natural

response to every societal situation, specifically in the school setting. It is unthinkable
for every college student to be isolated in this tough journey towards zooming in on their
career sceneries. And more especially, freshmen students are more likely to seek peers
to start college with a bang of enthusiasm fading their social jitters as they are basically
the newborns of this academic level. According to Nelson (2019), peers are crucial
because they foster a sense of students' attachment to the higher education institution
that is increased by their sense of place within the campus community.

Consequently, the researchers observed that there is a fair share of influences

of the peers’ bond on the academic enthusiasm of the students. It is stated in the
extensive research of Picton, C. et.al (2017), peer support through institutional initiatives
has been shown to have a favorable impact on students' emotional, behavioral, and
cognitive engagement. The several chances to develop belongingness driven by peer-
supported learning improve resilience and retention. On the contrary, peers bond also
has a negative connotation based on the hostile kind of group the student is engaged
to. The majority of the time, a hostile group that does not prioritize academics will annoy
and have bad effects on not only the growth, behavior, and motivation of the student’s
educational success and studying (Filade, B. A. et.al 2019). Thus, these prove that peer
bonds do essentially have influences on the academic enthusiasm of the students.
According to Ukume et al. (2020), Academic enthusiasm is influenced by a peer group
in a variety of ways.

Timothy & Uguma (2017) claimed that a student who belongs to a

knowledgeable and influential group of friends tends to perform better academically
since they share a common team of similar aspirations. Despite these existing positive
influences, researchers have proven that peer bonds negatively affected the height of
academic interest and focus of the students.
